They're just splitting hairs. If you're a son and have the same name as you're dad, you're a junior. i agree, but how about this: what if the dad names all of his sons after him? i worked with a guy who was John Doe III (his name isn't really "John Doe", change names protect innocent blah blah blah), and his father John Doe II name his second son John Doe IV. are they both Jr, or is it just the older son, or just the younger son? side note: it has to suck when your younger brother has the same job as you and advances a lot fast than you do. i worked with John Doe III while in the military (Navy), and when i met him when he was an E-3. his younger brother, who was in the same rate (job occupation) and joined after he did, was already an E-4. by the time he made E-4, his brother was an E-5. he just picked up E-5 and his brother was already an E-6. by the time he's able to try to advance to E-6, his brother will be going up for Chief. Reminds me of BJ Penn. Him and 2 of his brothers are all called Jay Dee Penn. The oldest goes by Jay, the second goes by Jay Dee, and he goes by Baby Jay

I think purely on a technical level, that's correct.
"II" would be for if you're not the son, (you're a grandson, a nephew, a younger brother).
But some people use it anyway for convenience' sake.

VKM calls himself "Vince McMahon Jr." and I've been told that's technically incorrect. Why?

I was just watching an episode of Penn and Teller's Bullshit. Where Penn says that you are only a junior if you are the first born son and share the same first and middle name as your father. I always thought that you are a junior if you share just the first name as your father. I had no idea you also had to be first born and have the same middle name. What's your opinion on this? My grandfather father and brother all have the same first name My grandfather and father are senior and junior But My brother is not the third because his middle name is different. I never heard the part about first born thing but the middle name is definitely part of it . Unrelated the fact that my father was junior and my brother isn't confuses like every pharmacy that the two have went to.
