I figured it would be an interesting topic. So FAN, what's the usual culinary stuff that goes on in your home/area. I tend to be the one who usually cooks for my family, and I'd say I'm fairly decent at it. Most of what I've learned is from my mom.
I suppose most of what I've been taught is Filipino cuisine. Adobo, sinigang, etc, with a some other stuff here and there. Soy sauce is a common ingredient, as is vinegar and fish sauce. Fish sauce is nice, sometimes a replacement for salt, and is used for a quick marinade for frying. Calamansi, too. All of those can be used for dipping food, though in the case of fish sauce it's added when you need extra salt for broths.
Garlic and onion is also used quite a bit. Siling labuyo for an extra spicy taste.
And other stuff. Trying to think of other things related to cooking here.

Last thing I tried cooking was a chicken fritter.
Do you have any idea how much smoke comes from making one of those?

I had to start cooking unless I wanted to live off sandwiches for the rest of my life. I actually line learning new recipes, but I hate all the clean up afterward, probably because my apartment has no garbage disposal or dish washer so its all done by hand. I'm pretty well versed at very basic stuff like various types of chicken, steak, meat loaf, and pasta dishes. I would like to learn more Mediterranean style cooking like Italian, Greek, or Spanish. Also would like to learn more Asian whisk e like Chinese, Thai, or Indian.

For today I coated a wolf fish filet in some sodium-free Singapore seasoning and steamed it with some mixed vegetable.

My husband and I both cook pretty frequently. I like to have a lot of variety with food, so I'm always looking for new recipes and getting new cookbooks. I also like to do vegetarian meals at least a couple days a week.

The extent of my cooking skill is stuff I learned in Food Tech years ago, so Lasagna, Tagine, Risotto and Banana Loaf. At a stretch, I can make Chicken with some sort of sauce and rice. Seeing as I'm hoping to leave for University soon, I'm probably going to end up living on Ramen etc.

Just made a lovely sweet n'sour pork stir fry. nomnomnomnom Stir-fries are one of the few things I can cook, they're tasty, healthy, quick, easy and cheap what's not to love? If anybody knows of a website with (non-stir-fry) recipes that also meet that criteria please post a link. Seems most of the recipes I've seen lately have a huge list of obscure and expensive ingredients.

I've lost about 4 stone using the Hairy Dieters Cookbook. I was not convinced by some of their stuff but I was when I made the lasagne using leek leaves instead of pasta. Gobsmacked was not the word.
As for websites, BBC Food is one of the best.
