I realised that today when shopping with my girlfriend. We passed a fancy shop and had a look inside, they were charging $9000 Taiwan dollars for some shirts... that's equivalent to £200. They were nice enough shirts but... they were no nicer than "budget brand" shirts which you can pick up for £20 - £30. How can companies get away with charging so much for a garment that costs a fraction of that price to make? Even worse, how do people justify paying it? My cousin wastes so much on clothes. A few years ago she spent £70 on a belt just because it was "Diesel". It looked no better than the £5 I bought from TK Max. I find it baffling. My brother spent over £150 on a Stone Island top that looks like the sort of sweaters you can pick up for £10 yet because it has a Stone Island badge on the sleeve, for some reason they can charge £150 for it instead? I feel proud that I've never spent more than £20 on a t-shirt and no more than £50 on an item of clothing (a 2nd hand leather trenchcoat from Ebay). Thankfully, my girlfriend is the same as me. She wears cheap but nice clothes too and hates the rip-off brand names

Guys do it so girls are into them and think they have money or want to "belong" to something or be seen as something they're not (See all the wannabe MMA guys who wear Tapout shirts)
Girls do it because it's kind of expected of them from their peer groups.
Me personally? I'm in your group OP. I'm happy with paying 20 bucks for a T-Shirt and 25-30 for a pair of jeans.

This is my exact reaction to shoes. Why spend $60+ on a pair of shoes unless they are like medical aiding shoes? The $40 pair of generic shoes I bought at Wal-Mart several years ago still hold up. Sure they have some signs of wear, but they still work. Also I don't get why people who do spend the balls out expensive money on shoes get mad when they get dirty. News flash, shoes touch the ground, they are going to get dirty. They are kinda supposed to get dirty.

Get myself 2 pairs of Chuck Taylors, and they last me awhile. Hell I've had 2 pairs that have lasted over 3 years before getting 2 new pairs recently.

Clothes prices are ridiculous sometimes. I'm simple though, jeans & a T shirt, so it doesn't really affect me. I'll buy a good pair of shoes in spring, & a cheap pair in fall. Chicago winters will f*** your shoes up, so why spend the money?

My first WFT moment of high school is when one of my classmates told anouter that she needed to clean the bottom of her shoes. The shoes looked like they were only a couple of weeks old.
