Watching TNA Victory Road 2008 and the opening match is a World X Cup match between Team Japan, Team Mexico, Team International and Team TNA. A lot of really great wrestlers came through the World X Cup but TNA has done away with it.
Does anyone know why? We could of seen some really great stuff with the NJPW deal back in 2010 or so.
Hopefully they bring it back now that TNA has deals with AAA and seemingly Wrestle-1 Japan.

I wish I knew. I loved the X Cups. Always fun to watch, plus Doug Williams got hired off one.

Yeah the World X Cup and the Super X Cup were both awesome, I wish they did a lot more of them because for some reason in TNA tournaments really draw and they don't seem to anywhere else from what I've heard. With the fact that they're going to have a bit more TV time in 2014 to play with I think it's something they could do semi-regularly and it's another thing that TNA can use to set themselves apart and use to garner fans.

I love the World X Cups! I really wanted TNA to do another one in 2010 (they were supposed to be done every 2 years), but they didn't. Hopefully they'll do one next year! I've heard rumors why they stopped doing them, but I don't want to say anything that is not factual.

The World X Cup was indicative of how TNA could do things differently and be a real alternative to WWE.
So they stopped doing it.
But yeah - every year's X Cup was awesome and opened my eyes to talent that I'd never seen before. It was one of those things I REALLY wanted to see each year.

I love international tournaments. Very WCW, in a good way.
