He's the hero that WWE deserves, but not the hero that WWE needs right now... This is someone else's chance to step up big here.

I can see him taking a well-deserved break and coming back in time to challenge Taker at WrestleMania.
Like, have Undertaker come out of the RAW after the Chamber PPV (that is if Cena can stay off that long). Taker can have this promo about he how's faught and beaten them all, how he's 21 and 0, and he want's to go out with his head held high. He'll tease something about a possible retirement. Than, Cena's music hits.

Supposedly John Cena is the biggest face in the company yet last night when he lost the title clean as a sheet, the crowd erupted with joy. When he announced tonight that he's leaving for a while due to injury, the crowd erupted with joy.
WWE has some serious thinking to do about John Cena's character for when he returns. For being the "top babyface" he seems pretty disliked.

At least being off the road means he won't have to listen to Nikki ask him about marriage constantly.

The folks in the crowds might hate his guts, but evidently enough other people are buying Cena t-shirts to render that disdain for him irrelevant.

Good riddance. I hope it is 6 months. Sounds like something a cool guy would say. If hating Cena is cool, then consider me Miles Davis.

Cena should've had one last, violent throwdown with Brock where he managed to knock out the Beast but get taken out in the process. A crying Nikki Bella would cradle him in her arms, one of his T-shirts would be torn and shredded, wrapped around a ring post.
4 New Superstars would appear, all claiming to be John Cena. Zack Ryder would build a John Cena suit in honor of his fallen friend and mentor; Sheamus would come back from injury as cyborg, half Man and half machine, claiming to be the Doctor of Thuganomics; kicked out of TNA for all his heinous acts, Christopher Daniels would don a pair of sunglasses and act as John Cena come back with an attitude; and, even as we speak, Jason Jordon, cloned from Cena's DNA, sets out from NXT unaware of his true origin, fully believing that he's the Master of the Five Knuckle Shuffle.

With Brock/Rock scheduled for Mania and Bryan fighting the Corporation for the WWE Title, it makes sense to do Cena/Undertaker at Mania.
Cena could come back at the Rumble with full promotion and then not win. Next night, he comes out, talks about not knowing what to do next...GONG.

Heal up, Cena. I always fear that his body will give out one day, so any opportunity where he can get some rest is good for his overall health.
I think he should return in a way that brings things full circle.
Daniel Bryan HAS to be the guy who brings down the evil corporation and they have a unique opportunity to bring the WWE career of Bryan full circle as he leads the charge against the HHH/Orton alliance.
Say Bryan finally gathers a resistance against HHH, but he's outnumbered by one man. At whatever ppv they decide to do this, months from now, Bryan introduces his last team member as... John Cena. But this is different, it's not Cena returning to lead the team, he's following Bryan into battle... Like Bryan followed him into battle against The Nexus.
Would be a cool way for him to return.

I really hope he comes back with a new POV.
My own personal misgivings about the Cena "character" aside, he's been rocking this murky marine/hip-hop/ucantseemee amalgam for a while now and its time for a change.

Despite my disdain for Cena at times, I will probably pop when his music hits in like 5 months.

I'm gonna miss seeing Cena and hopefully he has a nice speedy recovery. The crowd pissed me off with their reaction, Cena deserves way more respect than the crowd cheering because he's injured. That was a Philadelphia sports fan level of low.

I may not be a fan of the character, but the man has been an absolute ironman for the better part of a decade. He needs to heal up so he can actually function later in life, what's more he deserves a vacation (even with physical therapy thrown in). Ditto. I felt like giving him a standing ovation last night after that match. Dude went out with a seriously injury and tore the house down. His character may be stale as hell, but he's a great talent and I'll miss his matches.
