So, obviously a lot of us here dig multiple genres, but I thought it might be kind of cool for people to list their favorite year, or years, of Pop music.
Because I'm a super mark for mainstream Pop music, there haven't been a ton of years I haven't liked. I really didn't like the Indie Rock explosion in the mid 2000's, but other than that there haven't been a lot of years I've disliked as long as I've been alive.
So far, I've really enjoyed 2013. I can't think of a ton of songs that I haven't liked to some degree, and I definitely think the present year has 2012 beat, even though I enjoyed 2012, as well.
Past that, just to limit myself, I really enjoyed '99, '02 and '03. I really liked the majority of the late 90's-early 2000's, but nostalgia might be affecting my opinion there. Out of those, though, I think I'd have to count 1999 as my favorite year in Pop music so far. Looking over the Billboard list, there aren't many songs that I can remember not liking, and I feel a decent amount of them still hold up, nostalgia put aside. The only song I got tired of hearing was "No Scrubs" by TLC, but other than that the list is golden.
I think my favorite song from '99 would have to be "Genie in a Bottle" by Christina Aguilera. I'll admit that that's purely a nostalgic decision, though, because I have a lot of great memories associated with that time in my life, and that song was on so often that I associate those memories with that song.
If you want to see what topped charts for any given year, Wikipedia has an entire list from 1940-2013. You can find more years by going to the bottom and opening the "Lists of Billboard number-one singles" box.
