It is stupid how strongly they've booked her against other divas. If nattie gets to cut those promos on tout/youtube and they are relying on social media to build this feud? Bullcrap. People will only see what happens on raw. Pretty much natalya has to just absolutely destroy AJ. Also remember two weeks ago we were bashing aj tapping out akwardly before the sharpshooter was even locked in? How did aj magically become as over as lita or trish? Lita was getting huge pops just like Jeff Hardy was. AJ is over and that isn't common with Divas. As for the mistake, f***ups like that happen just about all the time in matches. Only reason it got that much notice is that it effected the ending of the match.

Except AJ's great in the ring, charismatic as all hell, exceptional on the mic, over with the crowd, and by pro wrestling standards -- she's damn-near Oscar-worthy as an actress. So clearly, she's not as "useless as the rest of them". As a character and in the ring -- AJ is on a level that only Trish Stratus, Mickie James, and to a degree Lita have been before. Alright, now I don't mind AJ, and I'll admit she's an ok actress, but Oscar level? Seriously? Hyperbole to the max right here. Notice, I qualified that with "by pro wrestling standards" which means just below that of a soap opera and just above the acting in a porno movie. And AJ's acting skills are about on par with a great soap opera actress, which means that she's much better than the average female pro wrestler.

Lita was getting huge pops just like Jeff Hardy was. People were bashing the whole thing all around, not AJ in particular. Nattie had the Sharpshooter locked in, she's the one that let go before AJ even tapped. Then she did it again! No one's said AJ is as over as Lita or Trish yet, but she's got that combination of looks/connection with fans/ring ability where she might be on that level someday.

She got good pops yesterday. WWE should run with this. They are onto something. In AJ, they've got everything they need in a proper female star. She can wrestle, she's good on the mic, has a distinct character and personality, is over with the fans, and she's the kind of person they can send to more mainstream things like Comic Con, social media chats/interviews etc...and she'll be well spoken and aware of the world beyond the WWE bubble. AJ's nerdy/geek/offbeat persona is a million times more relatable than the "bitch" persona that the Bellas have, or the bland musclewoman personas of Kaitlyn and Nattie.

Good response by Natalya in that video, claiming BS on AJ saying she was homeless, yet somehow finding enough money to attend a lot of WWE shows as a kid. I don't think AJ ever said she was always homeless. I'm sure there were times when her family had money, and there were times when they didn't. Also AJ always talks about how she had the worst seats at live events, which are dirt cheap. So just about anyone could have been able to afford those. It doesn't mean she had a lot of money if she went to a show.

Slightly relevant: They sent her to Comic Con for the first time 2 weeks ago, and afterwards immediately booked her for another one next month, so I guess it went really well. I wouldn't say Kaitlyn is bland at all though. Kaitlyn has mass appeal as well and both of them have very similar personalities outside of the ring. Hell, I'd even argue that despite Kaitlyn ceasing to appear on TV anymore, that she's still their 2nd most popular Diva. They should both be built up as two of their top girls for years to come.

I don't see why people are confused about the Natalya thing.
She's the heel, despite the crowd's response. Hypocrisy is the name of the game, even if they mostly have a point.

Well I assume Natalya is meant to have a legit response eventually, but I don't think she can get it across in a promo. So she'll probably just make AJ tap out in 2 minutes in a tag match to 'prove her wrong'. But nobody will remember that, really. Oh, I see what you did there.

The problem is, going by recent history, AJ Lee is almost guaranteed to go without comeuppance, because she's Vince's baby. This is someone who, last year, was getting about as much screen time as John Cena. To compare, our beloved Bellas, at their most unbearable, were getting maybe three-to-four minutes a given RAW to make their fat jokes. Or, to put it another way, AJ Lee probably got more cumulative screen time in 2012 than anyone who held a midcard championship that year. Of course you're going to look better when everyone else in the division is basically cannon fodder.
I mean, let's be blunt here, AJ largely got over because a) she was the only female on the roster that wasn't Vickie Guerrero who had a perceivable character, and b) her character basically boiled down to "mai waifu": the ingenue in schoolgirl plaid and Chuck Taylors, who could find a way to stick out her ass in any position, and who totes liked video games and comic books and wasn't like all the other girls. But she's saying she got there because of how good she is? Despite the fact that one of the people in that ring was Natalya, who could wrestle circles around her, and another was Naomi, who has just about surpassed her despite wrestling about half as long as her, and had no problems keeping up with her in 2010, fresh out of the Orlando Magic cheerleading team?
Of course, none of that matters because AJ is Vince's baby, and there's no chance in hell she'll actually see any comeuppance, so this is all a moot point.

For being over, obviously. The Divas need to put her in place because her actually being interesting is making them look bad.

Judging by the reaction of the crowd, AJ is the face. My point exactly. She's over because she's the only person out there who's had a character past "bitchy", "nice", or "flatulent" in the last two years. As I stated above: Imagine John Cena vs The Miz at The Bash, except this time The Miz never got to speak on the mic, rarely got a match on PPV, and instead of being recently off of those much-maligned reality shows, he was actively on one. On the other side, John Cena is WWE Champion, is displayed without equal, and he's shootin', because that's what's hot in the streets. Vince McMahon tells the people "Only AJ is important and nobody else!" When she goes after a bunch of nobodies who's only real television time is the hour after the Kardashians, which side do you think is going to get cheered?

When she goes after a bunch of nobodies who's only real television time is the hour after the Kardashians, which side do you think is going to get cheered? That's because of the merits of the performer. AJ's personality and wrestling style is capable of connecting with the audience in a way that maybe the other Divas can't, whether as faces or heels. That's why she's important. As for Miz, he gets a lot of mic time, he just doesn't have anything worth saying, and the reason he inspires apathy is because in wrestling terms, he's nothing exceptional, and in persona terms, he's a douche and almost anyone comes across as more sympathetic when compared to him, and his feud with Cena was an example of someone being pushed way above their abilities.

Connecting how though? Becuase she got time To get over with the audience. If all the divas got the same amount of focus and characterization they would be just as over.
I mean Lita, Trish, Victoria, Molly Holly, stacy, torrie, Jazz, Jacqueline, etc were the divas before the current ones.
Some more over than others, but they were over.

She's already talked about how the reason people don't really care for the Divas these days is because none of them have characters besides herself.

Look, I don't wanna keep picking on the Bellas (that's like a half-lie, but I'm really trying here!) but lets drop the "They never got a chance!" argument. They both got a run with the strap, they both got multiple promos and during their run there was a Divas match almost every week. And no one cared. And they didn't care because, both in the ring and on the mic, the Bellas were below-average and boring. It gets to a point where you can't keep blaming management, because if these women had something to offer besides being serviceable valets, we would've seen it. Part of being a good wrestler is coming up with your own material and pitching ideas constantly. We've gotten good segments from the Divas in the past, and it's usually the ones who actually want to be wrestlers that are part of them. Now, talking Naomi and Natalya, they are just victim of being on that TV show. We might see them get magic'd out of this angle, because they don't belong on the losing team. It just seems like WWE put themselves in a corner with this, since it looks weird if the segment with the reality TV wrestlers doesn't include all of them (and they need material for the show -_-). And, lastly, just speaking to everyone, lets stop calling this a shoot. It wasn't a shoot, or a worked-shoot. It's just one of those situations where the promo, even being based in Wrestling World, happens to hit a little close to home.

AJ has that intangible quality that makes people care what she says or does. And few divas have ever had that. Trish, Lita, and Mickie were the only ones close to or in her league. Sure she's been given plenty of opportunities to get over, but she has made the most of them. And the Bellas have arguably been given just as much of an opportunity as AJ (and they've always been a pet project of Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn), but the crowd has never really given a shit about them, regardless.
