Connecting how though? Becuase she got time To get over with the audience. If all the divas got the same amount of focus and characterization they would be just as over. I mean Lita, Trish, Victoria, Molly Holly, stacy, torrie, Jazz, Jacqueline, etc were the divas before the current ones. Some more over than others, but they were over. You need talent to get over, not just time with the audience. The Bellas have been pushed plenty of times. They got pushed plenty hard back during the Kelly Kelly days, and they get pretty much just as much air time as AJ now that Total Divas is on. Yet they don't get half the reaction she does. Natalya, while good in the ring, has little personality, so I'm guessing that's why the WWE doesn't push her hard. Cameron sucks at pretty much everything, and Naomi will probably end up getting her shot once the Funkadactyls eventually break up.

If all you needed to get over was more time, Alberto Del Rio would be one of the most over superstars on the roster.

I think Eve Torres is a good analysis for quantity versus quality. If you remember, there was that weird period from about 2009 to 2011 where she would randomly find herself being thrust into some "major" position, either being Divas champion of the month or dancing with Cryme Tyme and R-Truth. Yet it was a botched skit with her kissing Cena (and dissing Ryder) that kinda randomly got her over. Shortly after, they capitalized and she was able to remain fairly over as a heel - not as "the chick they randomly had dancing to R-Truth's new song," but as the bitch that broke Zack Ryder's heart and went on to work for John Laurinaitis.
So it's not about how much time someone gets, it's about what's done with that time.

Hell, WWE even tried to put the Bellas and Alberto Del Rio together to get them both over around the same time that AJ and Daniel Bryan were getting together. That pairing didn't get over at all and was dropped within weeks.

So it's not about how much time someone gets, it's about what's done with that time. Yeah, Eve was constantly being pushed and kept getting paired up with some popular midcarder in a attempt to get over and none of them panned out. On smackdown she was with Cryme Tyme, got moved to Raw and won the Divas title, then she was paired with R-Truth, then she randomly won the Divas title from Natalya, had some skirmishes with Heel Michael Cole, started randomly hanging around Kelly Kelly during her feud with the Bellas/Divas of Doom, before the ill-fated Zack Ryder angle. All those storylines and pushes and she still couldn't get over until her Heel turn. AJ to her credit has been able to get over as both a Face and a Heel.

So it's not about how much time someone gets, it's about what's done with that time. And Eve's storylines would randomly disappear. She wins the Divas Title, and drops it to Alicia Fox randomly. She somehow gets put into the Natalya vs LayCool feud (still trying to figure out how that happened) and wins the Divas Title, gets blasted by Cole on commentary, they tease her kicking Cole's ass, but they wait a couple of months and by then nobody cared, she also randomly lost the Divas Title to a Bella. They teased a heel turn where she went off about the Divas, but never followed it up. Hell, she ripped Miz in a promo, got a good response from the crowd for it (and from online fans), and the WWE followed it up with nothing.

AJ became popular because she had the skill to back it up. She was constantly out-acting just about every wrestler that she was put into a story with, and she somehow managed to make her character seem consistent despite some baffling booking decisions. Can you imagine one of the Bellas or Funkadactyls doing her storylines and seeming even slightly convincing? With the talk of what she's absorbed from the various boyfriends, I think what she has in common with Kane is that both can take whatever's thrown at them and turn it into gold when it should be awful. That's why she's over, not because she's 'Vince's baby'.

If all you needed to get over was more time, Alberto Del Rio would be one of the most over superstars on the roster. To add to this, The Bellas, face Eve, and LayCool should have been/should be the most over acts in the company with how much attention they had on them. But lo and behold, The Bellas are about as over as a panda bear, face Eve flopped, and while this board had a love for LayCool they were never over as well. You can push people all you want, but if the crowd doesn't care for it, then maybe it's not the right gimmick or the right preformer or a combination of both. Things like Crazy AJ, YESing Hobo Daniel Bryan, and Kane clicked, while Daniel Bryan's abused girlfriend who he told to shut up, SRS US Champion Daniel Bryan, and Dr. Isaac Yankem flopped.

Give people time and a quality story. They get over.
It is about talent making it quality tv.
I don't get entertained by her skipping and tilting. Or her chinlocks.

Everyone does them. Makes no sense to single out one performer. You might not be entertained by some of her mannerisms, but enough people are. A wrestler doesn't need to please everyone, just enough to get them over. It's all about giving the right people time and a quality story. Sometimes it works, sometimes it won't. With AJ, it does. Depends on the individual and whether they've got the star presence.

AJ doesn't do it for me though. I am annoyed by her. Which i guess is the point. I just want this to end with her getting a sharpshooter where natalya bends her in half

I loved the fact it was a heel promo and both Lawler and JBL said they totally agreed with it. BURN.
And hey, when's the last time a thread about a Diva promo hit 11 pages?

And hey, when's the last time a thread about a Diva promo hit 11 pages? ALL the time. Divas are serious business.

Hell, I honestly can't remember anyone on the roster disagreeing with it besides the Total Divas girls themselves. Kinda odd...

That was an amazing promo and fantastic work by AJ. Very true too, I agree with everything she said.

They're probably even more vocal about it now that John Cena's no longer around.

This may have been covered already, but did anyone else think the Total Divas girls didn't know this was going to happen?
Their reactions were so awkward.
I think it was probably one of those 'test' things WWE likes to do. Pretty safe to say the Bellas failed it!

I think it was probably one of those 'test' things WWE likes to do. Pretty safe to say the Bellas failed it! Supposedly there were crews from Total Divas filming backstage before and after. I'm pretty sure this is all just going to end up as a storyline when the show's second set of episodes airs in November.
