I think its because the most interesting songs to make fun of are the boy band/ teenage/ bad dance stuff that usually makes the top 40. Don't agree with that at all. It might be partly because I geniunely enjoy a lot of dance pop (not exclusively, I like to think of my taste as being pretty diverse), but it just strikes me as odd how it's treated as anathema by so many music fans, as if extensive production in a song automatically drops its quality. There are dumb songs in just about every genre that don't get the attention a lot of pop songs do. Todd has stated on numerous occasions that he doesn't hate pop music he loves pop music that's why he reviews it. Hell he does end of the year top 10 lists that have had such artists as Ke$ha, Katy Perry, and the Black Eyed Peas on it. Which kinda points to that as being a true statement. He has also never tried to pass himself off as some kind of "Music expert" to my knowledge... which is good because he has made some really stupid mistakes in the past

Todd, Diamanda Hagan and Kyle Kallgren are the only reasons I visit TGWTG now, and I think the fact that they're broadly positive about their subjects while still being critical is part of that. Except when Hagan is reviewing Bonekickers, of course, but nobody can say anything positive about that.

Oh, wait, Nash. I watch the hell out of WTFIWWY. Though since I tend to go to his site for that I don't tend to associate it.

Why does he hate One Direction singing about "you"? Plenty of pop, rock, rap,r&b, and country songs have songs directed at "you", yet he doesnt give them any of the same vitrol he gives OD for the same thing. Heck, his previous review was for a song called "To Be With You".

Heck, his previous review was for a song called "To Be With You". It wasn't that they sing about "you" it is that most of the songs he has listened to from them do. Being that they are a pre-fab band whose songs are written for them it is a sign that all those songs are written so every girl listening can pretend it is them. From a marketing standpoint it is really smart. From an artistic standpoint it shows a lack of creativity and craft.
