I like to assume that Kane's actual legal status has been up in the air for years, what with a f***load of charges for arson and assault being filed against him. Thus, Kane's friends aren't going to want to contact the authorities about him, and his non-friends are just glad the crazy bastard isn't hanging around anymore.

Considering they'd be filing a missing persons report for a necrophiliac arsonist who's killed at least three people already, kidnapped two others and forced one of them into an emotionally abusive marriage, not to mention who also likes to torture people by electrocuting their genitalia, I can see why the police didn't want to bother with it.
