So I was thinking about the Cartoon Network of my youth, the 90's. And two things I remembered, but my memory is sketchy and my Google Fu has let me down.
1. Does anyone remember the Dog Bowl? Every night during Super Bowl month Cartoon Network would run a marathon of two different famous animated dogs, like Scooby Doo or Hong Kong Phooey or Huckleberry Hound. They were in a tournament bracket, then you would call a 900 number to vote on which was your favorite and they would announce the winner the next night and that dog would move to the next round. I think Scooby Doo won the year I watched it.
Here's the video of a promo for it:
My question about this is, was this an annual thing? I only remember it happening one time, but everything I've researched on Google dates this to 1995, but I know that can't be the only year they did it because I remember it, and I didn't get cable until January 1996. Does anyone else remember this or have any other info on it.
2. I remember around 1996-97 CN had a 3 hour prime time special hosted by Space Ghost where they would debut some new Cartoon Network shows, and he had a panel that would vote on each one. The panel was made up of the Space Ghost enemies like Moltar, Metallus, and of course Brak. That was the first time I ever saw Brak. My cousin and I watched it that night and were dying laughing through the whole thing. If I remember correctly that was the first time they ever showed a clips of the Powerpuff Girls and Johnny Bravo. I can't find any evidence of this. Anyone else remember this?
Feel free to share your memories of the old Cartoon Network.

I remember! Would've never thought about it had I not read your post.
I want to say it was a one time thing but who knows? But, damn, yeah, I remember.

I remember that Space Ghost special mainly because there was a moment when someone said "Blood isn't funny!" and one of the Space Ghost villains chimed in "Blood IS funny! He's the winner!"
I also remember they had a thing they did for one summer where once a week they aired all these 70's cartoons in a nightly marathon.

1. I remember the dog bowl. It always ended with the Scooby-Doo beating 2 Stupid Dogs in the finals. Ran twice IIRC.
2. The 1st Annual World Premiere Toon-In! I wish it was online for all to see, but I guess CN would take it down.
Zorak: Gimme the danish!
Van Partible: Okey dokey.
Space Ghost: No, Van, it's a trick! He'll take your whole hand!
Van Partible: No, I doubt it, but it would be funny... that would be comedy.
Space Ghost: Wait a second, Chester, blood is not funny.
Tansut: (Ding!) Blood is funny! Van is the winner!

Ahhh, World Premier Toon-in, I would have never remembered that was its title. Thanks for that. There is a few minutes of the opening of it in bad quality on Youtube.

Here's a set of commercials that aired during the Stupid Bowl, which aired the night of Super Bowl XXI. This might have run concurrently or replaced the Dog Bowl, I'm not sure.

The bowl games became the Big Game if I remember right. Same concept, but they turned it into a marathon of just one thing under the pretense of "Tom vs. Jerry" or "Road Runner vs. Coyote".
I'm certain the last one was "Bugs vs. Daffy" with Daffy actually winning for once.
