I'm watching one of my MLW DVDs right now and I'm sad at how great this company could have been. The match right now is Los Maximos vs Juventud Guerrera and Super Dragon. This was the night they had the tournament for the Jr Heavyweight Title featuring the likes of: Sonjay Dutt, Tony Mamaluke, Jerry Lynn, Jimmy Yang, Eddie Colon, Super Dragon, Christopher Daniels, and Juventud Guerrera Later Mike Awesome took on some jobber named Joe Seonoa, wonder whatever became of that guy! Then you had Raven vs Nosawa and Vampiro vs CM Punk. Fantastic. It's such a shame that this couldn't last. Such great talent from all over the world in this company and hardly anyone knows about it today. Anyone else out there feel the same way I do?

I've seen only a couple of matches from this promotion. However, I did like what I saw. I'm not exactly sad that it didn't last, though.

MLW is dead? I didn't even know it was sick!
Seriously, MLW went out of buisness?

I miss it a lot too. I followed it online for a long time and then we finally got MLW Underground here in Texas. I loved it, especially its midnight time slot here. It felt like the old days with Shotgun or Wrestling Challegne. It is also the company that gave me my first visuals of CM Punk, Sonjay Dutt, Los Maximos, Teddy Hart, and a few others. I loved the Extreme Horsemen. Diamond and CW made a great tag team and Steve Corino was excellent in the heel leader role. They controlled all the belts, which was just 2 before they got the Junior Heavyweight title(World and Global Crown Tag Team). The segments they had with "Black Magic" Norman Smiley and GI Ho were always favorites of mine. Mikey Whipwreck and Sinister Minister kept up their same stuff from the end of ECW, which was always top notch IMO. La Parka was there. Nuff said. Michael Shane and Francine made a good combo. Joey Styles was Joey Styles, always a good thing. I remember Ekmo(Jamal/Umaga) working a few of their tv shows after his WWE release, joining with Samu and Mana. D-Lo Brown came in shortly as well. Terry Funk, Barry Windham, Dr. Death Steve Williams, Samu and other old favorites were running around. And what put me over the top was the debut of JUSTIN CREDIBLE! As he joined the Extreme Horsemen for War Games. They had a really good Raven-CM Punk feud going. Mike Awesome was owning people as usual. It was just a lot of greatness that I really miss on my tv

Right now I'm watching The Samoan Island Tribe (Samu/Ekmo/Mana) taking on Monsta Mack, Richard J Criado (where'd this guy go? seriously this time) and Matt Martel aka Your Teacher Matt Striker

MLW carried the ECW vibe (and many names and faces and gimmicks) while bringing in the WCW luchadores the WWF were too high and mighty (and xenophobic) to bring in. Then there was their alliance with the then-fledgling (in finances, tv time and reputation) Mutoh All Japan. They aired All Japan matches, had some belts defended in Japan, and were getting their name out there.
Several things worked against them:
A.) Financing. It ran out fast. B.) TV slots. It wasn't as well syndicated as ECW was (which was alright, but not that hot, either, pre-TNN) C.) TNA - which offered more stable paydates and better access to viewers (for $10 a pop, once a week on PPV) D.) The business was in a downturn. had it come along last year or this year I think it would have lasted longer.
Bauer started to recoup with the promise of a promotion called something like H2, but he was working with Teddy Hart (not a good thing). Hart did not fufill his obligations behind-the-scenes (right as the show was to debut on G4TV - I think) and on the eve of their debut taping everything collapsed.
Since 2005, its brainchild, Court Bauer, has been working for WWE.

Since 2005, its brainchild, Court Bauer, has been working for WWE. He was the writer for Velocity during its last year and was responsible for the London-Akio matches as well as a lot of other great stuff that happened on Velocity.

A "brainchild" is a product of the brain. MLW is Bauer's brainchild, not the other way around.

I was shocked last night when the Joe/Awesome match not only wasn't that great but got tons of "BORING" chants from the crowd. Joe went outside for a chair and said back to the crowd "Boring?" and seemed like he was gonna do something to change their minds but the match ended 2 minutes later with an "Awesome Splash."
One of my favorite things to do around here is whenever someone mentions how great Jack Evans is, I like to ask when he's going to man enough to accept Dark Fuego's challenge. Then no one ever responds because they don't realize they are the same person. I wonder how much Court was paying Jack to work under a hood earlier in the night and then later as himself.

Him and Satoshi Kojima are the only asian wrestlers I really remember, but I dont remember the half mask thing. I know Jimmy Yang was there but I know he didnt have any kind of mask then.

I used to really enjoy it.
It was on the wrestling channel when it first debuted.

Also, Steve Corino vs Terry Funk in an I Quit Barbed Wire Match may be one of the most brutal matches I have ever seen in my life. Funk completely tangled in the wire after Corino threw rubbing alcohol all over his open wounds and he's getting a beatdown by all 3 members of the Extreme Horsemen but Funk never says I Quit. Then he starts screaming "I CAN'T BREATHE! I CAN'T BREATHE!" and all of a sudden the match just stops and Corino is declared the winner.
