South Park Studios is currently holding a marathon of the ENTIRE series so far. www.southparkmarathon.com/ in lieu of the upcoming season premiere this coming Wednesday. This time, instead of doing two half-seasons, Trey and Matt have decided for a much easier 10-episode full season. Also, more writers will be writing episodes with Trey, including Bill Hader. Of course, we won't know what they'll do to start the season until Monday at the earliest, so...predictions? My money is going towards an episode about the dangers of "twerking" myself.

I don't understand...isn't every episode available on South Park Studios? What's the point of a marathon?

I keep going back and forth over whether or not I'll atually sit down and watch this. I'm torn because when I was a kid I used to be the biggest South Park fan around, but over time the show's humor style hasn't held up as well as I thought it might (with a few exceptions like Casa Bonita and Good Times With Weapons), and I really don't like the smug "we're not taking a side, everyone's stupid but us" attitude it uses with a lot of topical episodes.
And yes, I know Family Guy is equally smug as well as just biased towards one worldview in that respect, but without going into anything that might violate board rules, I tend to lean towards MacFarlane's smugness more.

The last season was atrocious so I am hoping they can learn from it and start a new boom period.

I'm so tempted to boycott the season just on the principle of them moving South Park off of Comedy to put it on ****ing Much in Canada.
...which means I'll probably watch it anyway and just be really irritated about it.

Insecurity and I Should Have Never Gone Ziplining are two of my favorite episodes of the last few years, I hope they continue to go in that direction.

Speaking for myself, I thought Season 16 was kind of weak. I loved Butterballs, I Should Never Have Gone Ziplining, A Nightmare on FaceTime and Scause for Applause but then episodes like Sarcastiball made me wonder if the show was too desperate for the gross out laugh, especially when it was not funny. We will see what 17 brings us.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - South Park has just outlived its usefulness as a weekly series. Everybody involved would be much better off (well quality wise, not paycheck wise) if the show was just canceled and replaced with two or three South Park specials a year. But it hasn't reached Simpsons levels yet so the new season is set up on my DVR and I'll give it a chance.

That's actually good news for me, since on my current cable TV package I get Much but not Comedy. (For that I have to pay extra.)

I don't know why so many people are saying South Park has outlived it's usefulness. Seasons 11 and 12 (with the exception of Major Boobage) were far worse than South Park has been since then. Nothing is going to top seasons 5 and 6 for me, and there's no point in comparing it to them, so I'll take SP for what it's doing now. At least 75% of the newer episodes tend to be good, which is more than I can say about any other show that has been on the air for 16 years.

South Park will always be at least worth watching for me, if not great, in big part because of the animation. Little things like the cheesy smiles they put on some characters' faces at certain times, there's always some small touch I really appreciate even if I'm not digging most of the content.
The best episode I've seen recently was the one where they're in the foster home of strict agnostics, I was in tears laughing.

See...that's my thought process too. Does the good outweigh the bad? In my opinion...yes.
If a show ever becomes more of a pain to sit through than it does to enjoy, I stop. I did it after 10 years of the Simpsons, I did it after Family Guy came back from cancelation, I did it after the 2nd season of Aqua Teen. I've got better things to do if I'm not enjoying the show. I don't regret any of those decisions.
And believe me, if it wasn't for Major Boobage being a turning point in that season, I probably would have stopped watching at that point. Thankfully, it's never been a chore to watch since season 11 and I never find myself second guessing why I watch.

I'll watch when it comes to hulu plus in 30 days, but I'm in no rush.
South Park just exists nowadays, there are the odd good episodes in the last season, but even alot of the good ones seem same old same old.
I think Trey and Matt are too focused on other stuff
