www.billboard.com/articles/list/2155531/the-hot-100-all-time-top-songs?list_page=9So, I decided on a whim to see what the top song on Billboard of all time is, and the results are... Not what I expected. Mostly for that top five. And I decided to ask, mostly as an excuse to share this knowledge, what's everyone's favorite of them? LMFAO is pretty much the joke answer here, I think, though I suppose there is solace to be found in the fact that they have songs that are way worse. For me... I'm thinking Mack the Knife. I think it and Smooth being so high are really the biggest surprises for me, though I do like both of them. I dunno, I'm split between them. Also I had no idea How Do I Live was written for Con Air, though then again I haven't seen it.

Hey Jude, and the only song that's even somewhat close is Smooth.

Hey Jude and it's not even remotely close. Yeah, this shouldn't even be a discussion. Those other songs don't come remotely close.

This poll is broken. I can't find the option for "Come Sail Away"

In all seriousness, Party Rock Anthem is actually a really good dance pop composition. There's some well crafted melody there unless your first thought is "ew electronic noise".

Mack The Knife.
Yeah! would be second, but there's no justice in the world and its only at #13.

I'm kind of of the opinion that if you listen to individual parts of it, it's catchy, but if you add up the whole thing it's a discordant nightmare that just keeps awkwardly transitioning from one part to another with no real flow. Like, if it's a thirty second spot or something, it's decent, but taken as a whole it's not worth bothering with.

Eh, you could probably accuse a lot of great jazz compositions of making too many sudden transitions without much flow, But at least with Party Rock I never get the impression I'm listening to two different songs.

Only one of those songs makes me want to put on a zoot suit, go to a gin bar, and call a waitress "doll" while I snap my fingers methodically to smooth jazz. {Spoiler}And that'd be Macarena

I have a distinct feeling that a song (or possibly songs) will be replacing the lower end of the Top 10 soon- Thrift Shop by Macklemore (which just broke the 7x Platinum line as a single, making it one of the Top 10 most bought singles of all time) and Radioactive by Imagine Dragons (which has been out for over a year and still is being bought left and right).
As for the current list, my favorite is Smooth followed really closely by Hey Jude. The other eight can't quite match those two.

I decided to re-listen to them all and rank them from top to bottom.
1. "Mack the Knife" by Bobby Darin 2. "The Twist" by Chubby Checker 3. "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO 4. "Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)" by Los Del Rio 5. "Smooth" by Santana feat. Rob Thomas 6. "Hey Jude" by The Beatles 7. "You Light Up My Life" by Debby Boone 8. "How Do I Live" by Le Ann Rimes 9. "Physical" by Olivia Neutron-Bomb 10. "I Gotta Feeling" by The Black Eyed Peas
There are, in fact, no dance steps in the lyrics of Macarena (at least in English). Could have fooled me. Its actually pretty fun and sexy when its just audio. Light Up My Life does the thing that always annoyed me about With My Baby Tonight by talking about how "It can't be wrong" but not specifying why she has doubt. Hey Jude goes on forever, but I like the version from Royal Tenenbaums too much to place it any lower. Physical sucks. I Gotta Feeling is just relentless. How Do I Live is like the roller-coaster version of Light Up My Life. Part Rock Anthem is the James Bond to I Gotta Feeling's crap spy that no has ever heard of because he died on his first mission. Smooth exists. (But so does a whole bunch of people I have to assume this helped create. If you know what I mean.) The Twist just punches you right in the face and demands that you enjoy yourself. Chubby is giving you suggestion to do anything, he's telling you. And you're going to. Now.
Mack the Knife is coolest damn song ever recorded. That slow build that doubles as an representation for Mack creeping up on people. That frenzied piano mid-way through they begin detail what he's done. That increasing tempo like its gotten into a fight to the death just like poor Louie Miller had to. That cool delivery. That "Eek!" Its tremendously dark and still fun at the same time. It's number one by a mile.

Assassin's Creed promotion can do wonders apparently.

I'm a fan of The Beatles but I don't really care for "Hey Jude", so I went with "The Twist". I'm a sucker for the classics. There are actually a couple of "twist" songs that I prefer though, namely Chubby Checker's own sequel song "Let's Twist Again" and Joey Dee & The Starlighters "The Peppermint Twist" and I'd vote for one of those if I could.
