Elgin is one of those guys who isn't bad, but really shines against certain people (like Davey and Steen). It's actually quite amusing that Bennett and Cole get to go to New Japan before Elgin. Cole is probably the best guy ROH has right now and Bennett seems to carry himself better in allot of ways.

I really don't get the Elgin hype all his matches are pretty much the same the only one i can really remember being great was his Davey match Yeah you're right, it makes me think about pwg and how only they book him on tag matches, maybe he's getting stale. He was actually pretty good as a heel with Truth.

Lol yeah even fn Bennet got there before him, maybe someone just hates poor Elgin, like the whole roster goes to board a njpw plane, then a Japanese official stops Elgin from boarding, "Not you!"...

I think one of Elgin's issues is similar to an issue that Samoa Joe had. A lot of Elgin's offense is borrowed from guys in Japan, and apparently if you riff off a lot of the main eventers in Japan as an indie guy in the states, you're not as likely to be taken seriously.

talking about Joe, he could be awesome in G1 (maybe next year when TNA folds?? i kid i kid). He will have some fresh matcups and he's had history with Okada.
Joe isn't on shape like AJ Styles, but i believe he can still pull off good matches
talking about Okada, this guy has been completely underwhelmed in the tourney so far. not that he's actively bad or anything, he's been having good matches and 2 MOTYC (day 1 vs Styles, last night vs Goto). The tournament has been such quality that even 4 star matches and the biggest star (or is it still Tanahashi?) are considered average

i was listening to Meltzer's podcast last night. he was hinting that Okada/Tanahashi at final and Nakamura/Styles for 3rd spot and Shibata might not be in the run cause he's not a big name to headline Seibu Dome show. i hope they can throw this wwe syndrome out and put the title on this guy who truly deserves it more than anyone else.

Shibata still has some years of good faith to repay NJPW before they even think of giving him the title. Loyalty is still a value in Japan, and it's not like NJPW will not make money not putting the belt or the tournament on him.

I'm fine with this Mix they have but they just need to realize that Okada Tanahashi/Nakamura Tanahashi is played the hell out

pretty tame show, not helped by ustream being down for first half
Nagata/Tanahashi and Shibata/Ishii were good. rest were average by tournament's standards.

Looking at that, I just realized that Shibata has no chance of winning his block, since he needed Tanahashi, Nakamura & Fale to all lose(along with winning), but with Nakamura/Fale, if either of them win, they're both ahead of him & even with a draw, Nak would beat him by a point.

Weak. I guess there's always next year.

so we have
Okada vs Nakamura & Tanahashi vs AJ Styles for Seibu Dome
Shibata got royally screwed and i have no idea why they let him beat Swag and Tana and lose to Gallows and Fale

When I say there's always next year, I think Shibata may get his run, its just not in the plans for right now. Shibata does still have a little bit of time to put in, but as hard as he's been working, and with the damn good matches he's been having, New Japan would be dumb to not utilize him eventually. I should point out that unless a guy is booked to win a G1, a lot of the protection that some guys get can be thrown out the window to build other guys up sometimes, or at least make some guys look like a threat in the G1 when they're not necessarily always a threat in general.

Okada/Nakamura and Styles/Tanahashi tho. Like lets focus on the positive those matches are going to be so hype. I thought for sure they'd save Okada/Swagsuke for Tokyo Dome but who am I to complain?
