It seems like this era is really relying on big heat moments instead of huge, Austin-style face pops, which would be fine if the payoff happened and the faces ever gave the heels a dose of their own medicine. Months of shows that feature the heels utterly dominating doesn't make a good build, it makes people get sick and tired of it. I'm glad they're letting the faces (well, at least the ones the fans really get behind) get ahead again.
Kayfabe wise, it's good to see the faces growing a spine and not getting their asses handed to them week after week (after week).

Nah, you had Ambrose and, especially, Reigns taking out lower guys left and right with their finishers. Most of the guys didn't have a chance against the Shield. Quality over quantity.

I repeat what I said last week: the pay off in a feud is seeing the heel get trashed. The Shield have been built up as the unbeatable heel team by constantly plowing over everyone on the roster, including Bryan, numerous times. Hence the audience explosion upon finally seeing The Shield get a beatdown themselves. Its really not that complicated.

With the Ryback angle I am reminded of the Groucho line from A Night at the Opera: "Hey you big bully, stop picking on that little bully!" But yeah, this was one of the weirdest matches on Raw in a long time. Who on earth would put the babyfaces at an absurd 11-3 advantage. I know the overall storyline was that HHH put several guys in matches where they got violent beatings, but at the end of the day there were still about 7 fresh bodies. And the booking of that match? Oh lord. Why on earth would the face side allow Van Dam and Kofi to get in the match at all, much less be two of the first guys in there???
