Darker speculation: The It/Death thing killed Will and assumed his form. If Will was real from the start. I think he was, but it could be that Will was a projection of the planet. Chances are Simmons is now pregnant, either with the alien planet's baby, or that Will and/or Jemma's reproductive systems are now messed up because of being on the planet so long.
But, the more I think about the episode the more I'm disappointed with it. It does have a lot to like. I think maybe in Season 3 if the show focuses on a single character while dealing with the larger story, it would really benefit the characters and character relations.
That being said, why is Simmons dealing with PTSD (like when she woke up with a sharp object once she made it back to Earth) when it seems like she had a decently comfortable life (as one can have on a hostile, living planet). She had food, shelter, company. She struggled, no doubt, but I was hoping for something like Castaway in Space.
Instead, now we have a love triangle maybe? Ugh. This show has to shit or get off the pot when it comes to FitzSimmons being a relationship. Your theory of whatever that thing is possessing Will or killing him and assuming his form will likely happen. Making Simmons' choice of Fitz easier, I guess. But I'd rather the show at this point make Fitz bisexual and pair him with Mac, who has actually shown Fitz more love, affection, and care than Simmons has. I've been shipping Fitz/Daisy since season 2 (well, it was Fitz/Skye at the time), even though there is basically no evidence of chemistry between the two to support it.

I agree that they need to stop with the FitzSimmons teases. I am starting to get Wesley/Fred/Gunn vibes. Fitz is the f***ing man though. {Spoiler}Love of his life tells him she fell in love with another man who's stranded on a distant planet? Doesn't even think twice about it, "Let's go get him." What a guy.

My father pointed out it seems like they cooled up Fitz this season compared to the last one... and seemingly got over his brain damage relatively quickly...

I liked the twist tonight (even if it was a little bit telegraphed) and curious to see where it goes.
I'm loving completely unhinged Lance Hunter, too.

You are literally the goddamn worst, Lance Hunter. The comment to Fitz was bad, but he took an unfair beating in this episode. Zod forbid Hunter put the lives of many over the life of Andrew. Ward was going to do that no matter what, he had put the Andrew plan into work before he and Hunter came face to face.

Powers Boothe will have a recurring role as Gideon Malick. It's the same World Security Council character he played in the first Avengers film. He's described as menacing and cold, someone Ward would fear. He might oversee Rosalind's operation. Well, now we know why Pierce didn't try to kill him in Winter Soldier. He was HYDRA, or at least friendly with high level members.
