Just finished it. I enjoyed it for the most part. They got rid of most of Chucky's one liners so it is missing the old charm in that sense. They do however, do a nice job of making it somewhat creepy, and Chucky looks pretty good in the movie.
The post credits scene is good though.
I'd probably say this is the 3rd best movie in the series

I find it weird that they're making a new sequel now and with very little fanfare to boot. Is this like for Hellraiser: Revelations and they had to make a new movie to keep the rights to the franchise or something?

I didn't even know it was out yet. Absolutely no hype behind this at all.

I find it weird that they're making a new sequel now and with very little fanfare to boot. Is this like for Hellraiser: Revelations and they had to make a new movie to keep the rights to the franchise or something? It was released for VOD yesterday and will be released on DVD/Blue Ray October 8th. I think that's part of the issue, but I also think studios were hesitant to give Child's Play a theatrical release. I know Mancini has constantly talked about wanting to reboot the franchise and make it scary again. Also, while there hasn't been a lot of hype, they did a lot of viral stuff and really played it more to the hardcore fans.

I just finished watching it. I though it was pretty mediocre. To me, it didn't really feel like a Chucky movie. There were some cool scenes here and there (The car accident, for example...), but yeah, I didn't think it came remotely close to the spirit/vibe of the others in the series. I would most definitely rank it last on my list of Child's Play films.
With all that said, I will admit that this is A LOT better than I expected it to be. To be honest, I was expecting another abortion like Hellraiser: Revelations. I doubt I would ever watch this movie again, but they did a much better job than I thought they would.

I just got done watching it. I thought it SUCKED big time. Easily the worst in the series in my opinion. It had a few cool scenes but not worth the $15.00 I spent on the download. Too bad to because I was really looking forward to seeing it. Now I know why it isn't going to see a theatrical release...
