Took me a while to look at this "Ethan" video... it's Derrick Bateman?! Holy crap my interest in TNA just rose 10-fold.

When I watched Impact this morning, I thought I recognized the voice, it didn't dawn on me until I read this thread that it is Bateman.
I love Bateman, and I think he can be a big star, color me intrigued now.

Bateman's a good hire in the vein of Elijah Burke. Somebody who was good enough to get to WWE TV but just never got a real opportunity to showcase their talents. Absolutely the kind of WWE talent TNA should be going after.
I still wish they would do something with Jay Bradley though, who is already on the roster and not getting any opportunities.

Jay Bradley was decent in the BFG series but just had a series of bad matches involving Hernandez and is probably in OVW honing his craft

Jay Bradley's main problem is that his gimmick is "win ugly" and I'm not sure that I've ever seen him win. I guess that he won his Gut Check match but I remember literally nothing about it.

I'm into this now that it's known to be Bateman. I thought he had some strong babyface charisma, especially the way he'd react to hitting a big move, he'd show visible excitement and it was infectious. Strangely enough, he reminds me of one of my grade school friends. I guess that we're both from Cleveland may have something to do with that.

Speaking of hiring "WWE guys" with potential but were misused, they need to snatch up Chris Masters a.s.a.p. Guy's got a great look, has improved ten fold and has a bad ass new tattoo to boot. That is if he's even interested in working for TNA.

I wonder why he didn't sign with them afterwards to be on the Impact roster?

Anything is better than ETHAN. Bateman is the type of wrestler TNA needs to go after. Young, hungry, and properly trained. They need to offer Percy Watson and Briley Pierce jobs. People make fun of WWE for going after WWE castoffs and I mostly agree when its older guys who already made their WWE name. But younger hungry "WWE Castoffs" who never properly made a name for themself in WWE and in this case barely made it out of development but had a lot of untapped potential are the perfect place for TNA to look. Especially since guys like Bateman (and Watson) would probably go fairly cheap in these times of crisis. Maybe even cheaper than some of the top guys in the indys. Like you said they're guaranteed to be properly trained and ready for national television which you don't get with indy guys. In fact thats probably why a lot of WWE castoffs are signed which is a thing a lot of people forget when making those jokes. Which is why by the way I've never had a problem with them bringing in Wes Briscoe. I know he's a goofy bastard and all but he's actually pretty solid in the ring and has some explosiveness in there a lot of guys never seem to know how to bring. He'll never be a star but he's a solid hand I think and I hope he sticks around after Aces and 8s is over. Note this isn't me saying "dont sign indy guys" they need to be looking for indy guys too but those guys will need more polish, changing of style, and readying for television than a untapped WWE castoff will. Like even the veterans of the indys might need a short run in OVW to polish those things. I don't have an issue with them signing guys that were in developmental, the issue TNA had in a few cases is that they expected people to instantly know who they were. Look at how flat Taryn's initial debut fell flat and reports were TNA was disappointed that she didn't get a bigger reaction. Hell, they tried to play Knux and DOC as fairly well known guys but neither had been seen on tv for a few years. I think a similar thing happened with Wes Briscoe as initially they did talk up his name, but what do current fans really know about Wes's family? That his dad had an evening gown match 13 years ago? I'm not going to say wrestling fans are dumb, but if you are going to play somebody up without much hype, make sure there's a reason for fans to get behind them. Taryn improved quite a bit down there. It seems like Spud is doing okay, and as much as people don't like him, Jesse Godderz is fairly entertaining with Robbie E (though that may be more due to Robbie). I think the bigger issue is TNA hasn't done a good job of picking who to sign, or even compete, in their Gutcheck competitions and I think that's a huge reason D'Lo Brown and Bruce Pritchard were fired (and have mentioned just as much). I'm not saying TNA should sign top indy talent, but hell you can't tell me that the likes of Alex Silva and Sam Shaw are worth signing over guys they've used multiple times like Johnny Yuma and Jigsaw.
