Since Raven owns the trademarks to the name Raven in wrestling, does that mean I wouldnt be able to use Raven Michaels as my ring name if I wreslted?
BTW, wreslters on the forums, what are your ring names and did you get to chose them if they arent your real name?

I thought it wasn't possible to trademark animal names, which is why he can use it wherever he wants. Same with Rhino spelling his name properly.

If I remember correctly the Rhino thing is because he wrestled as "Rhino Richards" on the independent scene, similar to "Christian Cage"

No, I didn't choose my name. It was a collaborative effort between me and the booker.

I think Raven owns the intelluctual rights to use it in the industry...like he can't claim it in anything but the wrestling buisness, but he owns everything about the character.
As for my ring name, I had been through a couple, but after my first tour of Japan I reverted to the one they used for me there because it was easier for them to pronounce, and that's the main one I use now.

Trademarks are tricky, and the use of common words make them worse.
Raven has the name trademarked for use within wrestling-related areas, but he'd be SOL if someone released a Raven shirt that had nothing to do with him. The trick is to usually come up with a certain logo, font, style, quote etc. that you would trademark as well, and make the two very connected in order to strengthen the ties to the word.
This is why WWE changed Rhino's name to Rhyno. It was easier to get complete trademark rights over that name when it came to t-shirts, figures, etc. Had NOTHING to do with some silly rumor about Marvel threatening to sue.

My original ring name was something generic, then after a couple matches they changed it to "Psychoti". See, it was really clever because it was like 'psychotic', but without that last 'c'! Brilliant! ......
Anyway, a little while later the last name "DeMan" was added as a rib on me by my friend Jean who heard some drunken fans outside tell me that I was 'the man' all slurred. Well, it stuck, and here I am, a man of 25 years that feels like he's 70.
