D-Bry is like a mixture of Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, & Owen Hart's best attributes, and status.

Yeah, kinda, even more than Punk does, against Cena's Hogan. I guess Punk might be Piper if Piper was a good wrestler. (Even Piper's fans tend to have to admit, he was not the best wrestler.) I get more of a Piper vibe from Dean Ambrose than I do Punk. Punk is sort of like Bret Hart in the sense of being a guy that doesn't suit WWE's conventions of who should be a Champion but then forcing his way in and opening the doors for other people of his ilk.

There isn't a "modern day" Randy Savage. Its kinda like how there isn't nor will there ever be a "modern day" Nirvana. Randy Savage just came from a different time period and brought something completely new to the table. I can kinda see glimpses of Kurt Angle in D-Bry, but Savage was a unique entity that you just can't reproduce. I'd argue that its the same way with guys like Hogan, Piper, Flair, Rhodes, Race, Andre etc.. Just a different time period that required different things out of a performer.

I love D-Bry, but no one is close to Macho. Dude was an all around beast.

I like Daniel Bryan more than Randy Savage, but I do not see similarities between the two.
Also, nostalgia rots your brain.

I think a lot of people use Savage as a metaphor for the guy in the #2 slot. Savage was the #2 to Hogan's #1. Many guys in that position (#2) have to work extremely hard & be well versed in all areas (promos, match styles, etc.) to maintain being over, & to potentially have a shot at being #1 someday.

CM Punk reminds me of Macho Man. Edge reminds me of Macho Man. Daniel Bryan reminds me of Chris Benoit (the wrestler), but with much better mic skills.

Cocaine was a hell of a drug. I doubt D-Bry would go to that extreme.

A little, he has that intensity where you can't tell if he wants to hug you or fight you. Though again, only a little.

No. If anything, Punk is the modern day Randy Savage. Great on the mic, can work as either face or a heel, and despite immense talent, forced to play second fiddle to the top star at the time. Savage had Hogan stealing his spotlight during his 1 year WWE title reign all the way up through the time they were in WCW. Punk has Cena, who was always in the main event of PPV's during Punk's 434 day WWE title run. Punk is the worst spot caller I think I've ever seen though.

There are some similarities in regards to in-ring intensity and both having wild looks that deviated from the expectations of their time, but beyond that I think it's a bit of an unfair comparison to make. Savage is forever frozen in time from an era where many of us were in our youth and never worried about how Hogan might have been "burying" him because he was involved in Savage's storylines while he was champion. Bryan doesn't get that luxury.

Some of his mannerisms and the way he flies around the ring remind me of the Macho Man. He's just missing everything outside the ring that made Macho cool...the great look, voice and promo ability.
