I'm a huge fan of JBL on commentary, but recently he's just been terrible. I don't know what's happened, whether its "advice" from Vince or he's just getting too complacent, but there's a noticeable difference in what he used to be and what he is now.
He's not just sounding bored and disconnected like Lawler, he's really f***ing annoying. Shouting "What's Up!" Every week to Truth's music, or shouting "Ole, ole, ole" for Les Matadores... God, John, SHUT UP.
Like I said, I'm a fan of the guy and I hope this is a blip, 'cos right now JBL is just awful.

I don't know whether it's just hindsight making things seem better than they ever were, but I think he was much worse from the moment he returned, and he's just gotten steadily worse since. He's so repetitive, and his attempts to take the side of the New Corporation have been abysmal really.

I think the announce team in general are really off recently.
And I bet its having Kevin Dunn or whoever in their ear that is doing it as each member of the announce team is capable of much better
I think part of it is also the chemistry between King and the other two is pretty much non existent.

I think JBL on commentary is great honestly. something about a drunk guy fitting reference about mr. fuji and saito into a del rio match is just LOL to me. and that smile, every time they go to the booth JBL has the SAME "hey, im 28 beers deep. whats up?!" smile on his face. not to mention dare I say "WE FAIGHT ON FRAIDAY NAIGHTS MAICHAL"

At NoC they acted like an unfunny version of Mike & the bots watching a movie for 80% of the show.

If there's one guy I've never liked in the ring on a microphone or on commentary, it's JBL.
But people got want what they wanted, so...I say choke on it.

He's horrible. And the sad thing is, he's the best of the three man team. That'd be Cole. He's not fantastic but at least he tries to put over the product more than himself even if he does tend to get dragged into JBL's messes. |

Maybe they should consider rotating a few heel announcers a few months at a time. Keeps the heel role fresh & gives a new perspective.

It's as if he's back in his comfort zone and putting less effort into what he's there for.
When he first returned he was great at getting the talent, storylines etc over. But now it's as if he's untouchable and no one on the other end of the headset wants to say anything.
It doesn't help that he's gone full heel mode either.

They're all bad, right now. It's really some of the worst commentary work Raw has ha- .... wait, I don't even think I can say that, as bad as some Raw teams have been in the past. Still, though, this three man team is insufferable.

He's seemed a bit better on Smackdown when it's just he and Cole. (And I thought he worked ok with Josh). Of course, I haven't watched SD! in a while.
Heck, he's having fun on that online Cole & JBL Show. I wonder if he just can't handle the ever-increasing audial interference/direction from backstage.
Just looking at JBL during those shots of the commentary team doing WWE App hype and worthless promos, too, it looks like he really doesn't give a **** and is putting on a soulless smiley face for the cameras.

The whole RAW commentary team seems more interested in bickering and/or making each other laugh rather than adding to the product.
Despite that the other two clowns still can't seem to come up with a way of countering JBL's points even when there's an obvious retort, I think because of that he's making increasingly stupid arguments so they'll be forced to say something and that then descends into them shouting over each other.

The commentary will always be not as good as it should be, no matter who you put in the booth.
The only guy I think that ever escaped criticism for me was Ventura, and that's only because wasn't as prevalent as his successors. Vince was annoying. Heenan was annoying. Monsoon was annoying. JR was annoying. Heyman was annoying. Tazz was/is annoying.
When you put on a show every week, for 3 hours each time, you're going to get the same schtick. They aren't going to change it up too much, because it would confuse some people, I mean look at what they did with heel Michael Cole, that came out of nowhere and did more bad than good.

JBL is one of the worst things about Raw, consistently. He does nothing but try and make himself the centre of attention, and he seems to be doing his best to outdo Lawler in the 'let's make the commentary for this Divas match as unbearable as possible' contest.

1) "MRS FANDANGO." self explanatory
2) "I'M CALLING THE MATCH, MICHAEL, let me take 5 minutes to not call the match to prove this, MAGGLE!" whenever Cole tells him to focus on a match
3) "@jblayfield" or whatever it is whenever social media's mentioned
4) "GET A TATTOO ON YOUR NECK TOO IF YOU WIN A MATCH, HAHA, AJ WHAT A LOSER!?!" every single week
And 200 other things.
Both Lawler & JBL are urgh, but JBL is worse as he actively shouts over other people and mocks wrestlers every week. He's not on Cole-heel levels of ruining commentary (though you had an excuse of "well, that was to feed a storyline" with that period of time) but damn, he's worse, he's like a bizarre sexist uncle constantly mocking anything you or anyone else does at a family get together and refusing to leave upon his 20th drink...
