WWE has NOT saved the tag team division.

I know there are more teams on the roster and people say "Triple H and WWE are reviving the tag team division", but you know, I don't think so. You know why?



WWE just won't give THE push to a team.



Yeah, you have cool teams like PTP, Usos, Shield, or whatever, but realistically, for years, the tag team division is just one team holding the titles for 6 months, then dropping them almost suddenly. Teams like E & C got the huge push as the best tag team, or when you go further back, teams like the Hart Foundation, all involved in great feuds. It's also the same record-player of WWE being hesitant to push a team. For example, in 2012, WWE kept teasing PTP winning the tag titles, but then Team Hell No formed and that was the end of that. Speaking of Team Hell No, they should've dropped the titles to Rhodes Scholars at one point and had a nice feud to recapture. Hell, they rarely even faced off for the tag titles. Now, with the Shield, they constantly tease the Usos or PTP winning the tag team titles, but then they just forget about them. Even with Rhodes and Goldust winning the titles, WHY COULDN'T THEY DO IT AT BATTLEGROUND? Why not? Why make so many dumb mistakes? How stupid are they at WWE? How stupid are the people that 100% like WWE? That's another thread, but my point is, WWE has not improved the tag division. They need to build up a team and make their title win a huge moment, probably a Wrestlemania moment. The Shield was awful as champs, so let's hope WWE can build a new big heel team and a big face one in time for WM.

Just saying, but the titles didn't need to be on the line at Battleground. The Rhodes family was fighting for something more important than some pennies. But yeah, it's weird. They give The Shield the Tag Team Titles and don't really have them do anything with it aside from "They're a dominant group" and then when they do build up PTP and The Uso's, it leads nowhere. Big shame too, because PTP winning at Night of Champions would've been awesome.

How were The Shield bad as champs?

The only way I could really see is because they didn't really have a defining feud that focused on the titles, so whether or not that means The Shield were bad champs is arguable to me.

Otherwise, The Shield were a damn good team to have them because they have something no other heel tag team has: credibility.
Beating The Shield for the straps means something. Granted, I'd have rather had the Usos or PTP win the titles...or at the very least Cody Rhodes could've landed his kick to actually win the match instead of Big Show handing them the titles.

The only reason they had credibility was because they were pushed as a main event level threat. And that's only because Kane and Daniel Bryan "needed" a main event level threat to take the titles from THEM.

The only reason Team Hell No were even working with the Shield to begin with was because WWE would never let Bryan and Kane actually work with the other teams. WWE felt that Kane and Bryan were needed more in the main event scene. Whenever there were two spots that needed to be filled in a main event storyline, instead of elevating someone else to fill those spots, WWE would just throw Team Hell No into the angles without regard for the tag titles.

WWE will probably rationalize that working in the tag division is "beneath" Cody and will "kill his heat", so he and Goldust won't do much with the belts either

Team Hell No and The Shield weren't awful tag champions. If anything, they provided stability to the division with their dominance. Without them holding the titles and defending them against various teams, the titles would had been meaningless. The Usos got over by fighting the Shield in spectacular matches. Beforehand, no one would make a peep for them. The PTP were making a serious run against Team Hell No before AW set them back. Rhodes Scholars would probably won if Cody didn't get hurt during the height of the feud with Kane and Bryan. When the Shield beat Team Hell No, it was a big event because the champs were so dominant. Same for when the Rhodes beat the Shield Monday. Plus why would HHH put up both the titles and the right to be re-signed on the line? Cody and Dusty fighting for a job was a big enough prize. Adding the tag titles would had been overkill. Tag team titles won't get the spotlight. Even E&C weren't in the same level as Rock, Austin, and Trips. Go back even further, the great WWF tag teams of the 80's were 3rd bananas to Hulkamania.

The belts are as important as whoever's holding them at the moment; no more, no less. I think the WWE Championship's the only title left in the company that feels like a big deal in its own right instead of a prop only as relevant as its current holder. So while the Rhodes Brothers are champs, I think the tag title will get treated like a big deal, since they're a big deal at the moment.

And like Team Hell No or DX's run a few years back, once they drop the belts and move back into singles feuds (or Cody moves into singles feuds and Goldust retires, since he's almost certainly not going to work a fulltime schedule for long at his age), the belts will go back to being as important as the next champions, and if those guys come from the usual assortment of teams who WWE doesn't really care much about, it'll feel mostly irrelevant again.

Exactly. It's one thing to say WWE is trying to save it, but it's totally different to say they have saved it. I don't fault them for trying and gladly welcome the effort.But it's going to be a work in progress.

To me, it doesn't matter WHY The Shield needed the credibility, it's just the matter these guys have credibility and everyone who has ever had to do a match against those guys comes out looking better than they did going in.

I get what you're saying, though I wouldn't say The Shield were bad champs because of it.
Really, the only thing that would keep the titles as useless props would be WWE seeing certain people as "above" the titles.
It's just man, WWE and their shit...

It's not like the US or IC titles. No tag team should be "above" the tag titles because there isn't a tiered system like they have with their singles men titles. So it's like, you've got Team Hell No. They're the champs. Put those fools into feuds with your tag teams for the titles. I know they don't do that but hey, them not doing that gets us where we are now where a few titles are on the cusp. At best they only mattering when the people who hold them normally matter, otherwise WWE sees it as a waste to book champs in feuds.

Really, the entire point of The Shield (because they won't be staying together forever) is to use them to put over people who need it. Big Show doesn't need them. Honestly, neither do the Rhodes Boys. It's the Usos.

Well, I believe WWE wanted to pull the trigger on the PTP last year AND The Usos this year.
But when a HOT act pops up, I can't blame them on striking when the iron is hot with those (Team Hell No last year, Rhodes Boys this year)
To be fair, I think The Usos are still in it and probably your next champs.

I believe a Real Americans vs. Los Matadores feud is coming up.

With the way that WWE pushes and presents its talent, there are way too many "top guys" who WWE feels compelled to have on EVERY show. WWE TV is like an ongoing series of All Star Games. In addition to Cena/Del Rio and Bryan/Orton, Punk/Ryback/Heyman, a possible tag title rematch, WWE has to make time for Big Show's match, The Miz's match, Dolph Ziggler's match (despite them being depushed/"buried", they're still "main eventers" presentation-wise). And if Kane, Sheamus, Christian, Henry, Rey, and possibly Barrett weren't all MIA, they'd all have matches as well. There are just too many guys who have booking priority over the tag teams and the midcard in general.
