Well, here's a funny thing I just realized: {Spoiler}Jasper Sitwell died pretty much the same way the Mark 42 was destroyed in Iron Man 3.
Just a couple of suits done in by big rigs.

The older woman in front of me who sat through the credits wondered aloud "I was expecting them to show something about Avengers 2"
I didn't have the patience to sit there and explain it to her.

You should have been a smart ass and said "They showed you something about Avengers 2, it said you'd next see Captain America in Avengers: Age of Ultron" I saw it again Monday morning/afternoon (11:00 am showing), and it more than held up. It's my 2nd favorite superhero movie, just behind Superman 2.

So basically just more flimsy excuses. Got it. It really just boils down to Marvel once again allowing writers and directors to disregard Hawkeye. If you can namedrop Iron Man half a dozen times, Bruce Banner three times and Doctor Strange who hasn't even been seen yet, you can certainly drop a line of dialogue about Hawkeye. He was a top SHIELD agent and somehow got no mention in a film that was all about SHIELD. It's just bogus. I'm getting really sick of the character being ignored, despite being a top Avenger in Marvel lore.

Black Widow was right there with Fury. Falcon was because they needed/wanted to use someone new to show that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting more and more superpeoples. Hawkeye really would've felt tacked-on in this movie. There was no place for him here, in spite of him being a top SHIELD agent. It would've made everything feel too crowded, and it was already a little too crowded to begin with. And I LOVE Hawkeye. He looked awesome in the first movie, and I've been a fan of that character long before that movie came out. I'd rather have him not be in the movie than be another face in the background of Cap's story.

I'd rather have him not be in the movie than be another face in the background of Cap's story. I don't think he needed to be IN the film, because yeah, it would have felt crowded. But how hard would it have been to have one line of dialogue explaining his absence? Could have been as simple as Rogers asking Widow "Have you heard from Clint lately?" and she could respond with "No. He's been pretty much off the grid since New York." or something of that nature. Anything to make it feel as if he still matters, rather than coming off once again as the red-headed stepchild of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Hopefully it just means it'll mean more when he shows up in Avengers 2. Or at least that they explain SOMETHING for him instead of just "I'M HERE, TOO!"

Well, Joss Whedon, Kevin Feige, and Robert Downey Jr. now have all gone on record as saying that his role has been drastically increased this time around, so I'm hopeful. It just seems dumb to me to waste not only such a popular Marvel character, but an Oscar-nominated actor like Jeremy Renner.

Eh, a line of dialogue woulda been fine, but I have no issue with them not including it either.

I think for me, it wouldn't be much of an issue were it not for his utter disgrace of a role in The Avengers. It just feels like Marvel's second instance of "f*** Hawkeye" on screen. They're treating him pretty much the same as Fox have treated Cyclops in the X-Men films. I'm biased obviously, but as a character he's far more valuable than this.

They need something for the deleted scenes section of the Blu Ray.
Or maybe one of those one shots 'What Hawkeye did while SHIELD went to shit' and it's just him playing with a dog and beating on Russians

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}If SHIELD did not help Tony Stark when his house was being blown to pieces, why should he help SHIELD when their problems come up?
Although one has to ask where Hulk is since he's not getting movies of his own

You know....there was a part of the film they could have snuck Hawkeye into.....you, the mission to get the hostages from Batroc? They were supposed to be silent, after all. Few things more silent than a bow, in terms of ranged weaponry.

Hawkeye sucks, I'm cool with this. He's easily the lamest Avenger on the big screen. I'd even take all the side heroes like War Machine, Sif, and the like over him.
