So, as I was sitting here going through my music, I came across some CDs that got played OFTEN by me during middle school; and it occurred to me that it might make a fun thread so why not? For me, excluding any KISS, it was Crossfade's debut, appropriately titled "Crossfade", Breaking Benjamin's "Saturate" and Motley Crue's "Generation Swine" I still listen to all three, but they got heavy play from me back in teh day. How about you, FAN? They didn't necessarily have to be released during your middle school years, either.

I listened to a ton of Breaking Benjamin and Linkin Park in middle school so it'd probably three of their albums.

Breaking Benjamin - Saturate was constantly in my cd player. Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP is probably my favorite album ever. Outkast- Stankonia was one of the first albums I ever bought and that disc got played until it wouldn't work anymore.

Interesting topic.
Hmm...I'll limit it to three different bands. These were regularly in my CD player from 1999-2002: KoRn - "Life is Peachy" Slipknot - "Iowa" Orgy - "Candyass"
I actually still have a soft spot for all those albums. Even though I've moved away from that sort of music, what's cool about your teenage music is that you always remember the frame of mind you were in, where you were at, what you were doing, etc. when you hear those songs. I always listened to Orgy albums when I would skateboard to meet up with an old girlfriend on the nearby trails, so I pop on "Vapor Transmission" and it takes me back to that summer. Walkmans and skateboards...those were the days.

To be completely honest, I didn't really have much of an interest in music until I was in my high school years. But during those years, I'd have to say 1) Pearl Jam - Ten 2) Nirvana - Nevermind 3) Alice in Chains - Dirt
I got into music by hearing a few songs that I remember hearing as a small child, looking those songs up and being completely taken away by those kinds of bands.

Good question, and I can confidently say that I'm cool with listening to any of these three today...
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral Prince - The Hits 1 & 2 (if we're counting compilations and the sort) Prodigy - Fat Of The Land Metallica - And Justice For All (just in case that Prince compilation doesn't count)
Matter of fact, I'd consider both the Metallica and especially the NIN among my top 20 favorite albums of all time... over the years, I've not been as fond of Prodigy, and I think The Prodigy Experience and Music For The Jilted Generation are both superior albums, having gotten into both of those in early high school. When I finally started getting into more than Prince's radio stuff and listening to his albums in high school, he shot to near the top of my all time favorite acts/bands.

I don't love it like I used to, but it's still a pretty decent little album with some amazingly catchy tracks. Can't really say the same for Candyass, though. Edit: speaking of Orgy, I remember there was a rumor going around after Vapor Transmission that Dave Ogilvie was supposed to produce the follow up... being a big Skinny Puppy fan at the time, especially of Rave's early work with them, I was f***ing hyped. Alas, it never happened, and we got that god awful album that I can't even remember the name of... had a crappy looking cartoon on the cover. "Punk" something...

The Essential Mingus Big Band, America Town by Five For Fighting, and Double Live by Garth Brooks would be pretty darn high on that list for me.

Middle school is junior high?
I'd say
"Weird Al" Yankovic-- Bad Hair Day Aerosmith-- Greatest Hits Alice Cooper-- Greatest Hits
By high school, with a job, I managed to get way more albums beyond Greatest Hits albums from Columbia House.

That time period was interesting for me musically, because I was still exploring and figuring out my own tastes after growing up with a father whose music tastes were pretty much "anything that isn't country is shit and you're not to listen to it". No word of a lie, middle school was the first time where I really started to develop my own tastes. At that point, it would've been whatever was popular on the radio circa 1999-2002. Linkin Park, Eminem, Saliva, whatever was popular with my age group at the time, I listened to it. It kind of makes me sound like a sheep, but I was still figuring things out for myself at the time, and it logically followed that my first stop would be whatever was popular. It was a far cry from the classic rock and metal buff I'd become by the time I was 16.

I believe this was around the Nu-Metal era for me.
So would have been the likes of...
Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish Korn - Issues Papa Roach - Whatever there debut album was called Offspring - The album with original prankster on it. Slipknot - The self titled album and Iowa.

I like both Orgy albums still, but " Punk Statik Paranoia"...yeah, that one sucked even for the time. I was on their street team at the time, handed out stickers of the cover they gave me and whatnot, and I tried to like so much... but it was super short, uninspired, completely void of what made the band stand out from the other bands of the time. They reformed again earlier this year with a miserably failed crowd-funding attempt, but what I heard prior wasn't exactly winning me over.

Walkmans and skateboards...those were the days. I...actually didn't purchase much music until high school, and even then more of my musical choices were based on radio stations over buying CDs. I can't think of one definitive CD [especially during middle school], but I can wax poetic about whatever radio stations I would listen to all the time more than that. ...bad segue from that thought, but for that token- another question that is similar: What "LESSER-KNOWN" bands, at that time (so if a band went on to get relatively big after you discovered, they count. All that counts is: They weren't a huge band at the time you discovered them, and you loved them during high school) were you a huge fan of before they broke out? IMO, it says a bit more about the person's REAL thoughts on music to know the bands that were almost "THEIR OWN", not incredibly popular throughout the world during high school.
