It doesn't matter. Its more important to build more f***ing prisons than keep a piece of history.

Stadiums need to be protected as landmarks. Mainly ones like this that have a lot of historic value.

I've lived in the Houston area for the majority of my life. I never got a chance to be inside of the Astrodome, and that saddens me.

I have a soft spot for all of those giant domed stadiums, probably just nostalgia, but when I was a kid those things looked huge and really added to the spectacle of the game.

Another one bites the dust I hate seeing these old stadiums get demolished. I'm gonna cry when they blow up Candlestick

So once the Astrodome is demolished, and with Andre long gone, does that mean Chyna gets to move up to #8 on the wonders list?

Big stadiums are the identity of cities.
Coming up to Montreal on the south shore, the first thing you can see in the distance is the gargantuesque Olympic Stadium. All 1,5 BILLION DOLLARS of it. IN 1976 MONEY!!!
And it's empty 363 days a year nowadays. We totally WOULD tear it down, but it would cost so much money that it's actually more effective to just let it crumble, like the Roman Coliseum. It will make a hell of a ruin.
Annnnddd we're building a smaller stadium to replace it and get baseball back in the next 10 years.

I saw quite a few Astros games there plus WM 17. It sucks it is gone. But it has been in bad shape for years.

I can remember flying into Houston (1986) and seeing that thing from overhead. That raised quite a ruckus for a bunch of us 11-to-12 year olds in an airplane. Almost like the excitement the Bad News Bears got from being able to see the 'Dome from the hotel next door. Big stadiums are the identity of cities. For all of those who miss watching baseball games from Olympic Stadium or the Seattle Kingdome, watch a Rays game on TV sometime. So dark and depressing, makes you want to fall asleep and swear off baseball for awhile. (And you can count the fans!)

Looking back, I'm REALLY glad I got to attend Wrestlemania X-7 (which I'm sure ranks as a fairly decent WM). The show was alright, but being in that venue, the very same venue that was considered ahead of its time in the '60s, is something I'll always cherish. Although I never got to see an Astros game in there, I'm happy I got to see some kind of event.

Kinda sad about this. First Astroworld and now this. Soon I won't recognize Houston anymore. Just about everything that was cool about that city is vanishing, and they didn't even get a space shuttle.

It'd be cool if it simply took off and flew into space, leaving onlookers bemused when they say "holy shit, the Astrodome was a spaceship?"

I spent a lot of time there as a kid going to Astros games. I once booed Darryl Strawberry, and shortly thereafter, his life started going downhill, causing a family joke that I cursed him. I also have fond memories of being excited to have Orbit (the Astros mascot) come over and hug me.
I also went to my first Rodeo there.
It feels like a piece of my childhood is dying, and that makes me very sad. I know it was in bad shape, sitting there deserted, but at least you could still look at it and remember the good times.

I detest seeing the old stadiums demolished especially when a new stadium comes about and is named after a big business. It feels like the stadium name is going to the highest bidder. There's no feelings anymore, which I supposed have been long gone with the multi million dollar contracts.
