So yeah, looked for a thread on this and I'm honestly surprised there isn't one, considering the movie came out not long ago.
I actually just finished reading the book for the first time. At 27. Dunno why I never picked it up earlier, lord knows I would've loved it when I was younger too.
But yeah, what a f***ing book. The story told was amazing, the characters were all interesting and fleshed out, and had interesting and compelling relationships with each other. I felt like I was there with Ender. It was a very interesting look at both childhood and war, and had a very good message, I think. The ending was phenomenal.
And yes, I can't stand Orson Scott Card as a person. He's a bigot who has actively tried to hold my fellow LGBT folks down. It's unacceptable. But I respect him tremendously as an author. Wow.

I appreciate Ender's Game because it lead to Ender's Shadow, which lead to possibly my favorite series of books of all time.

I saw the flick and liked it, Ender was a bit of a Mary Sue though.

It's the book that got me into science fiction in the first place, so it always has a special place to me. I do think he's gone overboard trying to milk the series though, especially since he can't recreate the magic in any of the sequels.

I just read it for the first time.
Demosthenes and Locke was a pretty stupid subplot. Overall though it was a good book.
As for the movie, the pacing was all wrong. It felt like a highlight video of the book.

It felt like a highlight video of the book. While Demosthenes and Locke may seem a little out of place, they become a much bigger part of the story in the subsequent books. Also, for those that like Ender's Game, I encourage you to read the sequel Speaker for the Dead. I thought it was great. Xenocide as well.

Haven't seen the movie yet but I love the book. The ending was fantastic I also enjoyed the scenes in the book where Ender is playing that weird game with the giant. Is that in the movie? Seems like something that would be difficult to translate to the big screen.

I forgot how much I didn't like Demosthenes and Locke in the first book honestly since they make more sense in the series. I want to get all the books and read them again. Haven't since high school and he's put out another since. I need to watch this movie this weekend.

Funny, I actually really liked the Demosthenes and Locke subplot a lot. Fleshed out Valentine and Peter a lot and honestly they were doing interesting and important things. I heard they left it out of the movie, which I figured they would, but it still disappoints me a bit.

I saw the movie last night and honestly I've never read the book or anything but the film was horrible. The acting was horrendous and I was laughing constantly about how bad it was. The lead character wasn't very likeable either really and Harrison Ford is looking pretty old too.
