That was something I wondered about in the first reports. Was there another witness who saw how she approached the house, or was this based on what the shooter himself told the police? But if so, why would he say that he heard knocking and immediately assumed it was someone trying to break in?

But if so, why would he say that he heard knocking and immediately assumed it was someone trying to break in? It's a very complex answer, and one we won't know the full truth of without being able to get inside the guy's head. Some people are, unfortunately, trigger happy. They're fearful, jumpy, and perhaps it's made worse for them by living in what's considered a "rough" part of the country. At a deeper level, however, many people in America are much more apt to view African Americans as potential threats, and thus be more likely to "shoot first, ask later" when it comes to a black person on your doorstep once it's late at night. I hate to say that with certainty about this guy; maybe he'd have shot no matter who it was, nobody can say with 100% certainty, but incidents like this usually turn to deadly force a lot more quickly when an African American is the person being shot at.

Note: Much negative press as my city and state gets, I have faith that Worthy, our county prosecutor, will do her level best in this case and not half ass it like Corey did in Florida.
