So the sequel to last years cult hit is on Netflix
Good God Almighty....this is pure f***ing horror.
If anyone here has seen it also, feel free to discuss, but right now I'm gonna try to fall asleep without any nightmares (no exaggeration, this film actually scared me)

The funny thing for me is that I liked it better overall than the first one, but I feel none of the segments is as good as the best one of the first movie (the last segment, with the exorcism. Gosh was that good), and the only segment I didn't like, the last one with the aliens, I feel is the worst of both movies combined. I just couldn't stand these piece of shit characters, a shame because the sounds and visuals during the attack were awesome, which shows it could have rejuvenated the "alien invasion" type of movie. I think the reason why I wasn't as impressed with the good parts as with the first movie's is that the threats here are a bit less creative. I mean, the first movie gave us stuff like a weird succubus/vampire hybrid, a monster that can only be "seen" through camera glitches and nondescript demons. The sequel, however, has ghosts, zombies a cult and aliens, nothing we haven't already seen. But hey, at least they pull it off.
But on to the good stuff. Like I said, I actually liked most of it. Even the wraparound segment was decent in my opinion, nothing great but still a far cry from the one one in the first movie was weak what was not downright annoying. I think what really made it worked is that each segment really had a unique thing.
In the first segment, I really liked the subtle details that allowed you to find out more about the story than what is explicitly stated. For example, it's never stated what the main character's job is, but from looking at his (expensive-looking) house, you can see he has many video game consoles and there are computer parts lying around on a table as if he was in the process of building his own machine, so we can assume he must work in computers. Perhaps he's a developer or a hacker. I thought it was a very clever way to let the viewer find things out about the characters and the story without resorting to exposition dumps and to make them speculate. I wish more film makers realized that THIS is how subtlety works, not by just being mysterious for the sake of being mysterious and refusing to give elements simply because you clearly didn't think it through. I'd actually like to see a feature-length version of this segment as, even though I don't feel it was the best in this movie, it has the potential to be a great story if it could be developed a bit further. I could have done with a few less jump scares though, but hey at least unlike many horror movies these days it's not ALL it had going for it.
The second one was very weird to me, in that it's clearly not taking itself very seriously and is even comedic at times, which is a bit out of place considering the tone of every other segment in both films but again, I feel they pulled it off nicely so it wasn't distracting to me. I also find it interesting that although the zombies are pretty much classic ones, the movie takes a really unique take on it. And again, there is little actual dialogue but a lot is said just through visuals, including the more comedic bits. A really fresh take on the zombie genre.
The third one was all about atmosphere and it even reminded me of the Silent Hill games at times, what with it being about a cult and all, but also through many other details. I like the way they made the sect believable ad they obviously took elements from real ones. The only problem I had with it is that it had the problem of making the characters a bit needlessly dickish at times, especially when you'd think they'd try to make the secretive sect trust them, but they were still likeable enough that I was rooting for them. It also had good pacing in my opinion and the slow build up (at least for a short film) worked well, it helps that the acting was very solid.
The fourth one, well... I think I made my feelings known earlier. Great visuals and sounds wasted by making us spend half of the already short segment with thoroughly unlikeable pricks who are being dicks to one-another for no good reason. I couldn't help but thank the aliens for taking them away from Earth. I have no idea why they decided to keep such a terrible segment for the end. You know there's a problem when the toungue-in-cheek zombie segment is more subtle than yours.
But yeah, 3/4 that I liked, not bad at all and I hope they make a third movie along the line, and/or that they make a feature-length version of the first segment.

I think I hated the first movie more than the House Of Wax remake, so as it stands it is quite easily the worst horror film i've ever seen. I was absolutely dreading going into V/H/S/2, but since it had the directors of Hobo With A Shotgun and The Raid in it I was more than willing to give it a shot.
I'm glad I did, because the zombie short and the segment directed by the director of The Raid were incredible. The cult short especially was something i'd have happily watched as a standalone film, and the zombie segment achieved the impossible by making an original and entertaining zombie movie. The first segment had too many hallmarks of V/H/S for me to be able to enjoy it. Given what it was followed by, having tits, beer, rock music and swearing made it feel completely out of place and all the boring f***ing tired spooky kids in white dresses dogshit just didn't fly with me.
I seem to be in the minority from what i've read, but I loved the alien short. The noise scares were getting a little overused but I don't think it suffered for it.

This sequel completely blows the original out of the water. The original take on the zombie genre was fascinating and something I have wanted to see a filmmaker do for awhile {Spoiler}For those that haven't seen it, a biker in the woods is bitten and turned but he was wearing one of those helmet cameras so the story is shown from the perspective of the zombie instead of the people trying to escape them

I only really liked the Cult story.
The biker one was OK but the others were poor IMO.
