I used to love games like KOTOR, Final Fantasy, the Batman games, and lots of other but I just don't care anymore. They're just examples but I've played pretty much every genre and its just feels all the same. I've been playing since NES if that helps but am I missing something?

I'm not that big on COD or Medal of Honor type games anymore. I used to play them a lot but I don't play them that often anymore.

FPS and it's not even close.
The market has become so over saturated by FPS's to an absurd degree.
I'm a bit down on my classical RPGs (Final Fantasy, Dragon Age, etc.) as well. Seems like the genre has fallen a bit to the wayside. Of course, that could just be my personal view as a big FF fan that's be incredibly disappointed with their work since FFX.

I get the FF disappointment, I didn't even finish 13, I loved how it looked and bought it and it's the only one I never finished (not counting the mmo's never played those)

Bought it brand new and re-sold it back in under 10 days. Just wasn't fun to play, which is the capital sin of video games. Hell, I still own FF12 for PS2 somewhere and I didn't even finish that.

FPS
While some good ones come out (Dishonored, Far Cry 3) it's mostly plagued by COD wannabes (And I HATE COD)

Non-narrative focused FPS.
Basically things like the Half-Life and BioShock series(for examples)? I'm all over that shit. Things like CoD and Battlefield where the single player is just something else to do? Eh I am not that interested.
It is why I can't see the hype that Titanfall is getting. It has no story mode and is all multiplayer. That just doesn't appeal to me anymore.

The JRPG.
'Twas once my absolute favorite type of game.
Now I've played enough that I can call the scripts' shots and stumble blindly through all the dungeons. The wonder is gone.

I've gone off JRPGs when I used to love them.
I guess because of the rise of Western RPGs where I prefer the levelling up format where you level up adequately as you progress and have no need to waste hours level grinding. Whereas JRPGs, once you finish one area you still need to waste hours level grinding to be able to progress through the next area or beat the next boss. It's pointless padding and boring.

I'll second JRPGS. It seems like developers hit a wall in the early 2000s that they still haven't been able to get over.

I used to play through it and watch the cutscenes/events as if I were watching a movie. Now most shooters are centered around the multiplayer aspect. I blame Halo for starting this trend.

I'll join those who have said FPS.
To tell the truth I was never really a fan of them to begin with, But having to listen to friends and work colleagues not shut the f*** up about the latest Call of Duty or Battlefield games get's pretty annoying, tried them myself and honestly I didn't think they were all that.
Though to be honest, I'm just not the dedicated gamer I use to be, Once upon atime I could have stayed indoors all day playing Video Games, Now it just drives me mad and I have to get out the house.

FPS. I don't know I just can't get into FPS. Even Borderlands 2 which I think is great I played for a while and just stopped.

RTS games like Warcraft 3, Starcraft 2 and Dune are a bit played out.

Hmmm you have slightly altered my frame of mind Koda. Because of Fallout and Skyrim. Then let's say heavy miltary themed FPS. I just generally don't do multiplayer unless it's MMORPG. On that note, MMORPG right now. It's just the lather, rinse, repeat of gaming to me right now. Create a character, level up, raid or pvp, new expansion, repeat.

This is an easy answer: FPS.

I'm gonna say fighting games. As I ran out of people to play against on the couch, I turned to playing online, where everyone's either a tournament-level player or they invest enough time in the game that they have every combo for their one character down pat to where you can't get any breathing room in and they humiliate you easily. Not to mention that SFxT pretty much destroyed my enthusiasm for any fighting game after that. It's even hard for me to get excited for UltraSF4, and Capcom's at least attempting to put some kind of effort into that.
And don't get me started on Arc System Works.

I'm kind of curious what percentage of console/mainstream games are FPS or FPS-based now. I am completely sick of that genre since it's pretty much defining "default video game" for this generation as much as Mario and Pac-Man did. That and pretty much all the FPSes that don't have a distinct visual style like say TF2 are completely blurring together.

I'll throw in a vote for FPS too. It doesn't help things that they all seem to be essentially the same game in the same setting with the same characters.
Why can't designers mix things up a bit? Instead of giving us our 100000th generic WW2 shooter, give us one set in the Korean War or Falklands War instead.
