Instead of the traditional Sing-Off Round, the remaining two contestants: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Orangeutan
and
Suave
will face off in an additional Round, Round 45, in order to decide who will face: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Felicity Smoak
in the Finale. So, Round 45 is... Face-Off The Two Remaining Contestants will select 4 songs of their choice from any band or solo artist that isn't A. On the Past Season Song List and B. On this list of artists used twice this Season (not counting artists where two songs were asked of them to fulfill the requirements of a single Round) {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Alice Cooper Avril Lavigne Blind Faith Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band The Byrds Chvrches Death Elton John Fiona Apple Hole Hot Hot Heat Johnny Cash Paul Stanley The Pixies The Red Hot Chili Peppers Regina Spektor Rise Against The Rolling Stones Sam Cooke Soundgarden Syd Barrett
Also, the contestant with the second highest Round 43 and 44 combined total: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Suave
has the option of making each contestant fulfill one requirement for one of their songs based on: Decade (60's, 70's, 80s, 90s, or 00's) Genre (Any of the Genres Used in Round 37: The Blues, Classical, Country, Hip-Hop, Latin, Metal, Jazz, New Wave, Punk, Reggae) or Nationality (Has to be from an artist from a country that is not the United States or England) The contestant does not have to make one of these requirements mandatory if they so choose. Only one song has to represent the chosen requirement but there are no limits passed that in terms of decade, genre, or nationality. Round 45 will be judged in a fashion similar to the Sing-Offs: The two Round 44 contestants will arrange their four songs in the order in which they want them to be judged. The songs will face off against each other like they do in the sing-offs, so one contestant's song 1 will face the other contestant's song 1, song 2 vs. song 2, etc. The judges will not rank the songs for point but will instead select the song from the opposed songs, doing this for all four pairs. A contestant will earn one point if they win one of the opposed pairs and a total of four points will be up for grabs. A contestant will win this if they gain a majority of the judges' votes, at least 3-2, with majorities of 4-1 and 5-0 also accepted. If there is a tie, 2 pairs of songs to 2 pairs of songs, for a total of two points earned by each contestant, then we will look at the over-all vote total each contestant earns. The contestant with the higher vote total will move on to the Finale. In case of a vote total tie, there will be a tie-breaker.

It's fitting that the man who has survived more sing offs than all the other contestants combined has to get through one last hurdle before he can reach the finale.
This should be a very interesting round.

Deep within the FAN Game Room, surrounded by sundry board games, The Orangeutan and Suave listened to the Host explain the perimeters for Round 45: Face-Off. Tyger (Dressed up as Monopoly's Rich Uncle Moneybags): So, in order to determine which one of you skilled competitors faces Ms. Smoak in the Finale, we at the Freakin' Awesome Network devised a series of exercises to test your mental faculties and reveal, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the second rightful finalist for this, the Ninth Season of FAN Idol. Suave (with a hint of annoyance in his voice): Shouldn't we decide this using music? Tyger: In due time Mr. Suave, in due time... Mr. Orangeutan, is there anything wrong with that Simon board game? I admit that, in my younger days, the changing colors proved to be a persistent cause of vexation for myself but- Orangeutan: Oh no, no problem at all. Just that... the red on the board makes me feel a bit down in the dumps. Suave: Right. It could've been Orange but it's Red and that's just a problem for you, isn't it? Orangeutan (playing the game, looking at the colored panels as they light up, and pushing on the blue one): That's correct. (Frowning) Close but no Cigar. Tyger (quickly): Well then, uh, that's the first. Yes! THE FIRST! The first of many trials that you two extraordinary talents must endure before you can join the exceptional Felicity Smoak in the Finale!!! Suave:... Goddamn it. Orangeutan: Oh balls. Orangeutan: It was Chazraps with the rope in the Billiards Room, right? Tyger (wearing an ascot and smoking a pipe): Incorrect! Suave (looking over an intricate series of notes): I've deduced that J killed Cageking with the wrench in the Conservatory. Is the mystery solved? Tyger: Nary a footstep fell in the Conservatory that evening. Suave: ? Is that a no? Orangeutan: It was Felicity Smoak with the candlestick in the Kitchen! Felicity (playing solitaire at a table in the far corner of the Game room): I'd use a dagger! Tyger: She'd use a dagger. Suave and Orangeutan sighed at the same time. Tyger: Mr. Orangeutan, I believe that stabbing the groin area is not the objective of the game. Orangeutan (Sticking his ape tongue at the Host): Shows what you know. Eventually, The Host's attempt at motivating the remaining two semi-finalists came to a head as they sent him their songs for Round 45: Show-off. For this Round, the contestants had to send in four songs each, with the only restrictions being that they could not appear on the Past Season's list and weren't from an artist that was already double-dipped this Season. Instead of being judged in one pool, with points given based on their order, Orangeutan and Suave were told to list their songs in the order that they want them to be judged. Orangeutan's first song will be judged against Suave's first song, second song vs. second song, and so on. The judges will choose the song they prefer in each match-up and a song will win a match-up if it gains three or more votes out of five, with five votes being the maximum a song can receive. A contestant will win this Round and move on to the Finale if they win three or more of the match-ups. If there is a tie 2-2, then the total votes for each contestant will decide who moves on, with the contestant earning more totals meeting Felicity Smoak in the Finale. As there are 20 votes up for grabs, there can be a tie. If that's the case, a tie-breaker Round will occur. And here are the songs from Orangeutan and Suave. Please give them a Round of applause for being such great competitors! 1. From Now On- Delta Spirit www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYldIuDAGGsVs. Lithium- Nirvana www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fIqq5XVFKQ2. 4 Judges' Decisions are in. Incredibly tight race right now and we will need the fifth judge's set of decisions.
Right now, only one pair of songs has a winner and the overall score is 9 votes to 7 votes.

A decision has been reached for Round 45: Face-Off, played between Orangeutan and Suave. The winner of Round 45 will face Felicity Smoak in the Finale for the title of FAN Idol for this, the Ninth Season of FAN Idol. The Finale's rules will be revealed soon after the second Finalist is revealed but, suffice it to say, that Round will be the most challenging one yet for our talented contestants. The Finale's winner will join Widow's Peak, Pegasus Warrior, Anonymous GM, Square, and Z-A Sandbaggin' Son of a b!% h as just the fifth FAN Idol in the Nine Seasons of our game and the first new FAN Idol since Season V concluded, all the way back in 2011. Orangeutan. Suave. Please step forward. The two of you met in Round 45: Face-Off, where you were tasked with selecting four songs of your choice, the only limitations being that they could not be from artists that were used twice before during this Season and that the songs selected could not appear on the Past Season List. Since he earned more points over the course of Rounds 43 and 44, Suave had the option of making it mandatory for one song to fulfill a specific decade, genre, or country of origin of his choice but he chose not to do so. Orangeutan and Suave were asked to arrange their four songs in the order in which they wanted them to be judged. The song lists would face off against each other, song vs. song, in a fashion similar to the Elimination Sing-Offs. This format ensures that the contestants have to choose four strong songs while also adding an unpredictable element of luck. Ultimately, both contestants played superbly all Season, winning a combined 13 Rounds and eliminating a total of 10 other contestants via the Elimination Sing-Off. Whoever moves on now will challenge Felicity Smoak to play her very best game and will help to create perhaps the greatest Finale Round ever in FAN Idol history. Now for the Song face-offs. For the first song, Orangetuan choose indie rock band Delta Spirit's From Now On off their 2014 album Into the Wild, while Suave countered with alternative rock legends Nirvana and their Lithium, off of their seminal album, Nevermind. Earning three judge's votes to two, the winner of the first match-up is... {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Orangeutan!!!
Orangeutan- 1 win, 3 votes Suave- 0 wins, 2 votes
Next, for the second song face-off, Suave employed perennial Idol favorite, the Piano Man himself Billy Idol, selected a song once described as "the ultimate pop-music epitaph to the Vietnam War" Goodnight Saigon. Orangetuan fought back with a dance night favorite with the Police-inspired named indie band WALK THE MOON's Shut Up and Dance. With three judge's votes to two, the winner of the second match-up is... {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Orangetuan!!!
Orangeutan- 2 wins, 6 votes
Suave- 0 wins, 4 votes
Let's move on to the fourth song face-off. For the fourth song face-off, Orangeutan brought us the "totally KROQ" sounding LA Quartet The Eeries and their breakthrough hit Cool Kids. In response, Suave produced the mythical Bohemian Rhapsody performed by rock gods Queen. Procuring three judge's votes to two, the winner of the fourth match-up is... {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Suave!!!
Suave- 1 win, 7 votes
Orangeutan- 2 wins, 8 votes
Now, for the third song face-off. For this pair, Suave threw down with Marvin Berry and the Starlighters' version of Earth Angel, as featured in the film Back to the Future. Orangeutan replied with Scandinavian rockers WATERS and their Over it. The winner of Round 45: Face-Off, moving on to face Felicity Smoak in the Finale of Season IX of FAN Idol is... {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Orangeutan!!! Congratulations!!! You've played a phenomenal game this Season and you have fought your way to your first FAN Idol Finale!!!
Over it by WATERS earned 3 votes to Marvin Berry and the Starlighters' 2.
The final total for the Face-off is 3 wins and 11 votes for Orangeutan to Suave's 1 win and 9 votes.
This was incredibly close and both contestants deserve all the respect in the world for playing at such a high level.
This means that, unfortunately, we will be saying good bye to Suave.
Suave, you played an extraordinary game this Season, dominating several Rounds, and coming back from the edge of defeat over and over again. You defeated some of the best FAN Idol players ever in your first Season and you did so by selecting musicians that ranged from all over the musical spectrum in terms of genre, time period, and professional level. That is not easy to do and this Season is likely the hardest one we have ever had.
You've created a remarkable song list and you should be proud with how well you played this Season. It came down to an incredibly small difference between Orangeutan and yourself and you would surely have helped make the Finale a special one. Thank you for everything you added to this Season.
Everyone, please put your hands together for Suave!!!!
And now... for the Finale...

Hey all, just got back from my campus visit. Think I'll settle in to do my Rankings now and whoa wait what?!
I gotta tip my hat to suave here. Last rookie standing, and he came within a few votes of making it all the way to the Finals. Not bad for the first go-round, ain't it?

Major props to Suave. Truth be told I thought it would be you there in the final. You're probably the contestant who has surprised me the most. While you may not have always done consistently well you were always someone who you could never count out. I mean look at all of the sing offs you survived throughout this competition. I don't know if anybody else has ever made it this far and survived so many of those. I'm not up to the history of the past games, but it would surprise me if that were the case.
Orangeutan, I'll admit I was counting you out near the end, but you found a way to survive, and you definitely deserve props for making this come back. I look forward to seeing what you bring to the table in the next round.
Felicity... you've got your work cut out for you.

Is this Orange's first Finals appearance?
If so, it's a battle between a first-timer and a second-timer, who I feel compelled to mention made her first appearance in her first Season.

It's Orange's first time, though he has gotten close to the Finale in the past. Working on the Finale Rules/Categories post. Almost done.

Round 46: The Finale{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Felicity Smoakvs.Orangeutan Choose 8 Songs, 5 to fulfill your choice of 5 out of 7 Judge's Categories and 3 to fulfill 3 Free Choice SongsThe Categories are: 1. Change Up: Selected by Judge Mr. B NatuChoose 1 Song that changes pace, either speeding up or slowing down, during the song's duration (The original Hannibal Lector, played by Brian Cox, from "Manhunter") 2. Uncovered/Recovered: Selected By Judge WaffleChoose 1 original version of a Song that has inspired a more famous (or comparably famous) cover 3. Fan Idol Idol: Selected By Judge radradsley Choose 1 song from someone that started out as a contestant on a Reality Television Musical Contest like American Idol, The X-Factor, The Voice, etc. and their Non-US Equivalents. Can be a performance from that show or a live or recorded performance before or after it. 4. Commercial Success: Selected By Pink Shirt Mod Choose 1 song that has been used in a commercial. Songs used for television commercials, Internet commercials, radio commercials, and movie trailers all apply. 5. That’s Deep: Selected By Judge fw91 Choose 1 Song that deals with a socially conscious topic such as but not limited to War, Drugs, Rape, Abortion, War, Suicide, Murder, and Politics. While these ideas were listed by the Judge, he noted that there are other topics that can fill the category. Please ask me if your song is acceptable for fulfilling the category requirement. 6. Life and Death: Selected By Judge Cageking Pick 1 Song that deals with Life and Death in Some Way. Can be about coping with death, killing, zombies and vampires, life lessons, saving lives, growing older, etc. as long as the concepts of Life and Death are covered 7. Season VIII- Anonymous GM vs. Roxie Daggers: Selected By Judge Waffle Choose 1 Song from the list of artists Anonymous GM and Roxie Daggers used in Last Season’s FinaleThose artists are: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}
Alice in Chains Brand New Carole King Depeche Mode Ellie Goulding Fine Young Cannibals Fiona Apple Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls Iggy Pop Journey The Mowglis the Old 97's Rilo Kiley Tori Amos WALK THE MOON Wolf Gang
The format will follow last Round where the judges will decide between two paired songs and cast votes instead of ranking the songs. The contestants are to arrange their eight songs in any order they want, with the songs facing-off in that fashion. So, Felicity's FAN Idol Idol song could end up facing Orangeutan's Season VIII song and so on; Felicity's first song will face Orangeutan's 1st song, 2nd song faces 2nd song, etc. Like last Round, a contestant will win a song pair if they receive a majority of the Judges' votes, from 3-2 to 5-0. If a contestant wins 5 or more song pairs, they win FAN Idol. If there is a tie, 4 to 4, whoever receives the most judges' votes will win. As always, I will accept votes from the first five judges who send in their pm's. If there is a tie after I receive those five judges' votes, I will use the other two judges' votes. If there is a winner after the sixth judge sends in their votes, then we will stop there. If there is a tie after that, unlikely as that is, I will use the seventh judge's vote and, if that does not produce a winner, a tie-breaker of my choice will be employed. There will also be a public vote, which will be described in detail further down the post. The contestants are to pick 5 songs to fulfill 5 of the 7 Judge's categories of their choice. None of the categories are mandatory but a total of 5 categories must be fulfilled. Note, we are going to waive the one artist, one player rule for the Finale. It will be possible for contestants to pick the same artist for their songs, especially if they both choose the Anonymous/Roxie category. The songs may also go head to head. While I doubt we will get many repeats with the two contestants, it's not a problem if they both pick a few of the same artists. In hindsight, this reminds me of another Finale, where the Judges picked a few artists that the contestants had to both use and then had the songs be judged head to head. It made for an awesome Finale. The contestants cannot use the following artists that have already been used twice (meaning in two different Rounds, so this doesn't count artists that were used for multiple songs to fulfill one Round) unless they are to fulfill the Season VIII- Anonymous GM vs. Roxie Daggers category. They cannot be used to fulfill any other category, however. They are: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Alice Cooper Avril Lavigne Billy Joel Blind Faith Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band The Byrds Chvrches Death Elton John Fiona Apple Hole Hot Hot Heat Johnny Cash Marvin Berry and the Starlighters Nirvana Paul Stanley The Pixies Queen The Red Hot Chili Peppers Regina Spektor Rise Against The Rolling Stones Sam Cooke Soundgarden Syd Barrett
For the public vote, we will hold a poll in the thread that will last for three days, starting right after I post the Round songs. Forum users are to vote for whomever they felt had the better song list between Felicity and Orange. Former contestants, Judges, and our various on-lookers can vote. I will abstain from voting. Felicity and Orange may vote if they like, however, I would like them to decide amongst themselves, preferring that either they both vote or they both abstain from voting. It's up to them. Whoever wins the public vote will have one total point added to their Finale total. Last Season, I had the Judges vote separately, though I feel it's better to add them to the public vote instead, making the one vote more important. If there are any questions or comments, if anyone, player or judge, needs clarification, please ask me in the thread or via pm. Note, this will likely take quite a while to finish, so please have patience with everyone involved. Thanks so much to everyone involved! Thanks to the judges for seeing this game through, all the players that helped to make this an amazing Season, and, most of all to our finalists, Felicity Smoak and Orangeutan. Good luck you two!!! It's time to crown a new FAN Idol!
