I have S1-8 on DVD. I'd like to get 9 one day since a lot of that was good, but that's the clear beginning of the end for the show. Once it hit double-digits, it was time to let it go. On the plus side, we got the super cool expanded Simpsons area of Universal Studios. Without the show dragging along, that might have never happened. So there's...something?

8. The quality started its downward spiral in 9.

Last great season was 8. I have all the seasons they've released on DVD. Like, 1-15 and 20. 1-8 are all excellent, then 9 is mostly good but has the episode that started the decline "The Principal and the Pauper". That was the moment the show hit an iceberg.
I've found repeated viewings of later (I mean, uh, 10-now) seem to improve my enjoyment of them. If you cobbled all those years together, another 200+ episodes, there's enough stuff there to make a couple more great seasons, but the quality is in decline throughout.
