Ah, here's the Cardinals that got us to the big dance last year. Have a seat. Stay a while.

Last week I created a sketch card of Wade Boggs and sent it to him for his autograph. Check out what arrived in the mail yesterday.

Diamondbacks placed RHP Bronson Arroyo on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow tendinitis. If I'm not mistaken, for as long as he's been around as a starting pitcher this is his first trip...kind of amazing in itself.

Mets fans can tell me if I'm wrong but after seeing Bobby Abreu trying to play rightfield the last two nights against the Cards, I don't care what he might be doing offensively, he should not be playing the field anymore.

We need his bat in the lineup. All of the other OF option san Grandy are below averages hitter.

So, a story written by someone who was a bat boy for the Padres back in the day. Tony Gwynn stories aplenty, but one line has me just dying. Benito Santiago was, per the story, a huge douche, and the quote in the story is, "You can tell the manager that he may suck Benito's ass". The Rickey Henderson/Konnan double play is just beautiful. deadspin.com/i-was-tony-gwynns-bat-boy-1592123043

Wednesday's game between the Angels and Indians has been postponed due to storms in Cleveland.
FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that Jeff Samardzija has rejected a five-year extension from the Cubs.
Morosi says the new offer was for $85 million. Samardzija is thought to be looking for a contract closer to $100-plus million, which has become the standard for top-tier starting pitchers

t.co/Sz9pJVyvHVThis nonsense is nonsensical. The blocking rule needs properly explained, or fleshed out, or...anything.

The Buster Posey 2011 Season Memorial "blocking the plate" Rule has good intentions, but enforcement is ambiguous at best, if not outright impossible. I think they should dump the rule until they can find something a lot more concrete. Rules shouldn't be as abstract as that.
Also, it's nice to see Brian McCann living up to that contract we gave him, if only for one night. Got two huge hits with a 2-run homer and a bases clearing triple, driving in 5 of the 7 Yankee runs. This was a REALLY important series for the Yankees to win, as it takes a bite out of Toronto's division lead. A sweep would be great, but 2 outta 3 ain't bad. Tanaka also goes ahead of Buehrle in total wins and he's already leading the AL in ERA, ERA+, and a sub-1.00 WHIP.
I expected Tanaka to live up to the hype for the most part, but I didn't expect him to be in the Cy Young conversation his first year in the Majors. Guy's unreal. He has yet to pitch less than 6 innings or given up more than 3 runs in a single start.

As for the blocking rule, shouldn't it just be "don't put your foot on home plate"?

Holy hell that obstruction call is ridiculous. With the neighborhood play, you can get a guy out at second without touching the bag, but touching home plate on a force out is obstruction. What is a catcher supposed to do in that situation, not touch the plate? He wasn't blocking the plate because the runner was out already by way of the force out. Play is over once he touches the plate. End of story.
The very fact that they called this an experimental rule from the beginning is ridiculous. You shouldn't be running an experiment with a rule in actual games that count.
