You learn something new every day! Apparently the snake scene was supposed to be a bit different, and it was supposed to look like...well, a snake. Most of the scenes were shot before Michael Keaton had been cast, and they decided to re-film with a new snake puppet that looked like Keaton's character after test audiences got confused and didn't realize the snake was supposed to be Beetlejuice in disguise. Based on the few images of he original snake, I would say it was a good decision-it looked like some sort of carnival prize
Nonetheless, I'd be curios to know if any of that original footage still exists.
