I'm not a youtube commenter yearning for the attiude era "OMGZ WRESTLING SUCKS NOW HOW CAN YOU KIDS WATCH THIS YOUVE RUINED WRESTLING CENA SUCKS"
But there's two things I miss.
Just watched an Austin/HHH segment from 1999. Of course Austin was in a black Stone Cold T-shirt, blue jean shorts, knee braces and boots. HHH was wearing a leather jacket and jeans and boots. I also remember around that time, Rock might wear sports gear or a flashy shirt when he wasn't wrestling. Even if a wrestler was wearing their own merchandise (like Austin) they would often wear it with jeans or something other than their wrestling attire.
I miss that. I feel like every wrestler seems to walk around in their gaudy wrestling merchandise shirts with the rest of their ring gear on (trunks etc). It looks kind of funny wearing a t shirt and underwear..
Also, one other Austin related thing I miss: When two superstars HATED each other, if they were in a blood feud, notably in Austin matches, they would not walk to the ring, then both stand in their corners and wait for the announcer to announce them. No, in many Austin matches against HHH and Rock, the superstars hated each other so much that they would start fighting before the bell. Damn that was awesome.
Backlash 1999 (Austin's entrance!), Survivor Series 2000, No Way Out 2001, Wrestlemania X7. Man I loved it when they just started trading punches from the off. They could not control their hatred. You really felt the hatred in feuds then.
Nowadays two guys might really hate each other. Ie HHH and Orton at WM 25. I thought their characters HATED each other. But they still stood in their corners and waited till the ref told them they could fight. It would just be cool if occasionally guys would fight before the bell. It could have really added to the intensity of the match if they just ran at each other from the off.
Didn't Punk knock HHH off the apron a few years back? That was brilliant.
