Some drops as the show went, but that's overall higher than last week's.

I wonder if the final segment had any actual effect on the final rating?
Because if it didn't, then I'll hang my head in shame.
Why? Because it was much more effective than anything that they've done recently to set up a PPV match.

An increase of over 500,000 viewers is always good. Was afraid with the MNF matchup.

Because it was much more effective than anything that they've done recently to set up a PPV match. A good segment would increase the following week's ratings, not this week's. People don't ring each other to say 'switch to Raw NOW!' any more.

So when ratings are up all the people who say that the WWE is doomed dissapear Let's hit all the potential replies right now: Great, now WWE's gonna think Orton and Cena is what we want to see. Wonderful, now we'll have Slammys every few weeks. Pretty sure the constant Daniel Bryan chants are why ratings are so high. Fandango drew in the casual dancing fan audience since he started the show. It's very cold out so more people were watching Raw instead of going outside.

Apparently Slammy's = ratings because that show was rather uneventful outside of the end.

The fans, anticipating a Eva Marie victory for diva of the year, tuned in at the start in droves. However when she go screwed over by a rigged poll, people tuned out in disgust. What a horrible move.

So when ratings are up all the people who say that the WWE is doomed dissapear No, they could appear and just say that a novelty episode of RAW is likely to gain higher ratings. It's the ordinary rank-and-file episodes of RAW that gives a better picture of the ratings. I'm sure the Christmas episode will probably gain a higher rating too.

Nah, Christmas episodes typically do very very poorly (mainly because it is Christmas). No denying the Slammy awards helped boost ratings a bit, but this was a pretty significant jump after a pretty big dip in the ratings.

I hope that encourages them to do more chaotic endings like that ending to Raw this week.

Wasn't a 2.61 the rating which ended up helping kill WCW and made them bring Russo back?

Wasn't a 2.61 the rating which ended up helping kill WCW and made them bring Russo back? You have to remember even if it was, ratings nowadays is a different ballgame than thirteen years ago. A 2.61 isn't as bad for a weekly program on cable and Raw is regularly in the top ten for most watched cable shows. To give you a frame of reference, Arrested Development wouldn't have been cancelled if it was pulling the ratings it did back then now.

Oh yeah of course, with the TV industry in the state it's in, a 3.0 now is a lot more impressive than a 3.0 in 1996.
