Anyone else as excited as I am?
I grew up watching Saturday morning AWA starting in 1981. It was the one show I looked forward too. I saw hogan's first appearances, as well as the claw and the high flyers.
Too me AWA is everything I thought was really real about wrestling, the Santa effect if you will. I look for Jobber of the weeks to be Tony Leone, Jake Milliman, jimmy Doo's, to find yet another WCW, WWF jobber. I hope this vid does the justice this company deserves.
Anyone remember the darkened arena with the single spot light on a white canvas with black ring ropes. Seeing two top wrestlers settle the score once and for all. I mean when the hell do you see that anymore?
I can't wait, how about you?

I too, am wicked excited for this dvd. While at the moment I can't recall any big angles that took place, I do remember my youthful love for the AWA promotion, and can't wait to get back some of the memories on this dvd. And until my dying day will defend Roger Kent as the single greatest color commentator of all time.

My biggest angle memory. Blackwell wins a 100,000 battle royal and then gets jumped by Abcullah and Brody, turning him heel against the shiek.
The other one was the arm wrestling match between hogan and patera with Ray Stevens as referee.

I hope it sells well so we can see future installments. Doubt that it'll sell well enough, though. Most fans today have no idea what the AWA was, or how many cool things happened there.

I really want to see this, too. I hope they have...
1) the Lawler-Hennig match where Zybszko helps and Hennig turns heel.
2) Colonel DeBeers piledriving Jimmy Snuka on the concrete.
3) Bloom and Enos: Tag Team Champions.
4) Bockwinkel.
5) Hansen.
... and the "Turkey on a Pole" match BETTER be an Easter Egg somewhere!

I might have to check this out. I never got to see AWA as a child, but seeing the kind of wrestling it inspired in the years that followed, it always seemed like a promotion I would've enjoyed.

Yeah this is going to be a great dvd. I must ask/say is your sig of Punk from his IWA MS days? And if so those are some of his best days as far as stuff he would pull on some of those shows. Like the one time there was a match going on, and all the sudden the crowd is quiet and you hear this loud "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" and it's Punk. I lost it when I first saw that IWA MS show. Any way about the awa dvd I'll probably get it in a few months. I'm too focused on ROH dvd's at the time.

I started watching AWA when it had the spot on ESPN at 4 or 5 I believe during the summers, because I was at a TV less day care center after school I don't know if it was only 1 summer I watched it or 2. It was back when I was like 5 or 6 and for the life of me, couldn't figure out why Hogan and Warrior and the wwf guys were never on. I figured Hulk would want all the titles, not just the WWF one. Did Sean Waltman get his start in the AWA as the Dragon Kid, or something close to that name? I remember when he started in WWF I thought he was the same guy. I really want to see some Botwinkle matches, I've heard so much aboput him and seen his name on so many title histories I want to see how great he really was.

Im sure Im going to take some heat for this.
I loved all the classic 80s wrestling, when I was a kid. I thought it was the greatest thing in the world. Now, when I try to watch alot of the old stuff, its is soooo BORING to me. I mean certain momments are great for nostalgia (sp?), but in no way would it be enjoyable for me to sit through a whole card.
Now dont get me wrong, there were certain matches back then that even now are awesome to watch. But those are few and far between, and mostly its alot of jobber vs star squash matches. A best of DVD might be nice, but I would just assume spend the money I would for that on something else.

No heat, I think it's just that I'm 10 years older than you and don't have the Attitude Era expectations of bigger stars. When I watch old matches I think stuff like, "Hey this guy went on to do this and the other guy went on to do that," etc.

The territory days, I could never see. The NWA, Old Stampede, World Class.(I would kill to have a chance to see Flair defend the NWA title in the Dallas Sportatorium). I just cant stand watching the actual matches. For the most part. Alot of rest holds, manhatten drops, body slams, and dropkicks. And they were sloooooow. For every Flair vs. Race, or Flair vs. Steamboat, there are hundreds of The Sterling Brothers vs. Mike Rotunda/Greg Valentine's, or Paul Diamond vs Tom Zenk's.

Well,it's old school so of course I must get it...
I remember tuning on weeknights on ESPN to catch the AWA;actually that was the first 2 hour wrestling program I can remember. As far as talent goes, being AWA it is almost required to have some Nick Bockwinkel, and I am always down to watch some Nick Bockwinkel matches;I'd also really like to see some East-West Connection on there, and some Billy Robinson.Oh,and as far as jobbers of the week don't forget Kenny Jay.
Yes,by today's standards most of the matches are boring, but its really not a good comparison as they did things differently back then, esp. in the AWA,it was alot more "slow build" rather than the all out spotfests you see now.Really it is a double eged sword since if you judge most today's matches by the standards of back then, today's matches totally suck;they are all just crazy impossible stuff and are over way too fast.

I was born in 1988 so I've never seen a single AWA show or match, however, out of true curiosity, I do plan on buying it when I can, it seems pretty interesting
