In 1987 he could have been brought in as a tag team with The Ultimate Warrior as the babyface opponents for Demolition, or if he was to be used as a singles star I'm guessing he could have been used in Brutus Beefcake's spot who was pretty much on par with Warrior in terms of mid-card push in 1988ish, and had him feud with Honky Tonk Man and Ron Bass, and later be the tag partner for Hulk Hogan against Macho Man and Zeus.
I guess it all depends on (if they were used as singles stars at the same time) who gets over more. Warrior or Sting. Had Sting been brought in Warrior may have never took off, or Sting could have just fell by the way side next to Warrior.

I don't know, Warrior got over in the WWF as an unstoppable wrecking ball of destruction. Sting in NWA/WCW got over with more of a fighting champion underdog push, more similar to how the WWF treated Bret Hart in 1992-93 then the Warrior in the late 80's. I can't just see plugging Sting into the Warrior's spot and getting the same or better results.

A few things pop to mind, based on Sting's history. Sting becomes the longest running wrestler employee. Undertaker may have the "streak" but Sting will be franchise star. Warrior and he enter the same time. Warrior's rise is quicker but Sting would become the star with Warrior gone and Hogan on his way out. Bret will have to wait a few more years for a title run. Crow inspired Sting becomes involved with the Undertaker battling Mankind and Executioner and then Kane and then Undertaker as he becomes the ministry leader. I actually think Sting would have been a huge star in WWF/E regardless of when he signed. Outwardly WWE have always spoken very highly of him, and considering he never worked for them tells you all you need to know - as this has not been the case with many others. The only thing I would say is that it would be questionable that crow Sting would have ever happened if surfer dude Sting signs for WWF in the late 80s. Assuming Sting stayed with WWE the whole time, I am pretty sure the crow idea was Eric Bischoff's so that would have went to another WCW star presumably.
