Pft, not in the US, where things matter. But yet the USA considers Miracle on Ice the most important sporting achievement in American History. Personally I consider Disney On Ice the most important achievement in history, full stop.

It only count if Canada wins gold in Hockey. Which is why 2006 was just a delusional dream we all had.

I count it. Considering I have a cousin in figure skating trying to qualify. That sport takes a lot of practice and training.

I would like the winters olympics if they just called it Shit Rich White People Do. Other then Hockey everything in the Winter Olympics is the equivalent of the sport where people dress up and ride the horse in the summer olympics.

Winter Olympics > Summer Olympics and it's not even close.
I'll take Hockey(definitely take that), bobsled, luge, speed skating, biathlon, curling etc over track & field, basketball, tennis, rowing events, and so on.

With no Winter Olympics, we would never have this:
And I do not want to live in a world with out it.

I guess it "counts", whatever "count" is supposed to mean. In terms of which one I would rather watch, since I come from a country which is essentially summer all year round, I usually take a slight interest in the Summer Olympics and couldn't care less about the Winter Olympics.
Still don't care much for either anyway. With the huge disparities in country populations, I've never understood why the medal tally is seen as the official determinant of which team was best.

Summer Olympics I get. Sport. Running, jumping, swimming, rowing, shooting, throwing, boxing - and all the rest of it. Many sports many of us participate in recreationally. But the winter Olympics just seems to be, largely, various ways of sliding on ice. Now skiing is fine, but it's not a sport is it? It's a holiday choice for the moderately affluent. I've always considered the winter games to be the significantly less important cousin of the summer games. Like fall is the less glamorous season or X-Factor the junior partner to American Idol. It's just people sliding on snow or ice in various ways. If you were told you were going to meet a former Olympic gold medal winner, let's face if you'd want it to be someone from the summer games, wouldn't you? No, not necessarily. It depends what sport you happen to be interested in, and yes skiing is a sport. The Winter Olympics do count. The reason they have a lower profile than the Summer Olympics is because the sports are more specialised.

Whenever the Summer Olympics are going on, I mostly like watching soccer, volleyball (indoor AND beach), wrestling, judo, swimming and running.
For the Winter Olympics, it's usually hockey, speed-skating and skiing.

I'll watch curling and I'll watch the occasional ski jump, for the remote possibility some guy will wipe out and slide off the ramp.
Otherwise, the Winter Olympics are a waste of my time. Distracts away from Spring Training.

Summer Olympics is better, but they're both great.
I'm still mad at the Olympic committee for banishing wrestling, even if it was temporary. It was in the original Olympics. It's a worldwide sport. It doesn't require you to be rich to play it. Grr...

Pft, not in the US, where things matter. But yet the USA considers Miracle on Ice the most important sporting achievement in American History. Pretty sure Jackie Robinson breaking baseball's color barrier is considered a bigger achievement. The Miracle on Ice had little to do with hockey, itself, IMO.

Only hockey counts, just as (now) only basketball and soccer count in the Summer.

The Miracle on Ice had little to do with hockey, itself, IMO. But it was a problem in America created by Americans and America. Plus racism was still at large after he was retired. Plus Jackie or not the colour barrier was going to be broken by any talented black player. He just did it sooner.

Skiing isn't a sport. I guess you learn something new everyday.
