Pretty sure Jackie Robinson breaking baseball's color barrier is considered a bigger achievement. The Miracle on Ice had little to do with hockey, itself, IMO. But it was a problem in America created by Americans and America. Plus racism was still at large after he was retired. Plus Jackie or not the colour barrier was going to be broken by any talented black player. He just did it sooner. Not true at all. Jackie Robinson had to take an incredible amount of crap from opposing teams and his own team mates because they knew all it would take was for him to quit or lose his cool and blacks would have been kept out of baseball for years. Even after the color barrier was broken it was another 12 years before all MLB interested because the Red Sox's owner was such a huge bigot.

For me, there are just WAY too many sports at the Summer Games. It's always just America or China (or Soviet Union in the past) who have a chance at the most Gold Medals. In the Winter Games at least 6 nations have a chance at the most Gold Medals. Not to mention it has a VERY competitive hockey tournament. Yes, the Summer games have basketball, but the US were 2/1 favorites to win. That's not really exciting. For every Summer games fan this disses curling, your fav Olympics has power walking as a sport. No one can diss curling when horse dressage and power walking are Olympic sports. That being said it will suck the day curling does out because they run out of the rock used to make the curling stones. Why does everyone diss dressage so much? It's hard as hell. Power walking... yeah. Just run.

To me the Olympics need to be about human athletics. Dressage is a fine activity, it just isn't, imo, worthy of the Olympics.

But in terms of activity, keeping perfect balance and control of a horse is more demanding that something like sweeping or something like riflery. Plus they have to train the horse, and that's hard as hell.

I'll grant you the keeping balance and controlling the horse, but it is still the horse doing the jumping and most of the physical exertion.

Dressage has been around since like the 1400s or something and the horse and rider are supposed to have the routine memorized, so essentially it's a horse training event. I see no reason why it shouldn't be an Olympic event.

I see no reason why it shouldn't be an Olympic event. Well because of what you just said it is, a horse training event. The Olympics, at least in theory, is supposed to be the peak of human athletic competition. When you introduce another, non-human creature into the mix it stops being purely human athletics. It is a human and animal tandem athletic event. Thus it shouldn't be an Olympic sport. There should be some kind of games for all these human-animal sports.

The Ancient Olympics used to have Chariot racing and such. It's legit to have horses in the Olympics. For the record, I really don't care it's not like I actually watch that event or anything.
