I actually remember hearing that when ECW folded and WWE signed a few of their remaining wrestlers and bought up their tape library, someone within the brain trust at WWE headquarters actually did suggest they sign New Jack. As amusing as the idea sounds, the scenarios that one can picture playing out are truly shudder-worthy. I can only imagine what would have happened if New Jack had been put in the ring with notoriously stiff workers like Hardcore Holly or JBL. And I imagine him being on the stick in a WWE ring would put the vileness of the Diva Search "promo" incident to shame. I hope whoever suggested he be in WWE has managed to sober up since then.

I thought their interest in New Jack came a few years after ECW's demise, and before the ECW revival was a thing, they were looking at potential guys for an up and coming Cena to feud with and he was in contention to be the guy that 'stabbed' Cena. I recall them having him work tryouts with Val Venis, chain wrestling to show what he could do.
Now, I think New Jack would pull a Balls Mahoney/Sandman/CM Punk and surprise us all, staying on his best behaviour while he feuds with Cena, not making any sort of waves even as he's used as a midcard jobber to the stars because he likes the money too much... Eventually, like most over midcarders in that time frame, he would be kicked to the curb for some asinine reason and we'd be treated to him doing even more shoot interviews than he does today, with a whole load of new people to trash.

New Jack would've done something that would've gotten him fired within a few weeks.

For all of his faults New Jack isn't stupid. If the money was good and he actually wanted to be there he would play nice.

Wouldn't matter.
New Jack already had the best moment of his career.
And it came with Shark Boy giving him Hulk Hands.

You're probably right about when they were thinking of signing him-I never read the newz sheets, so I am most likely mistaken. That said, I will give New Jack credit for having mellowed a bit over the years and having gotten better control of himself; the New Jack for the old days of ECW would never have agreed to tag team with Shark Boy and do cartoony backstage skits. But considering how long ago the ECW reunion show was, I think it could still be questioned which version of New Jack WWE would have brought in.

WWE never saw New Jack as Denzel, they saw him as Denzel's friend.

No way is New Jack getting over unless he's in a hardcore wrestling promotion where he can do crazy stunts.
New Jack in WWE would be a flop.

WWE never saw New Jack as Denzel, they saw him as Denzel's friend. I can only hope that would have been the entirety of his gimmick. "Denzel's Friend" New Jack.

If they wanted to repackage New Jack, he could have been the mysterious Joey Numbers that Tazz always talked about.

The kids would fear for John Cena's life the minute they find out what New Jack has done and the adult fans will rejoice at the chance to see Cena getting f'd up

I think I remember he wanted to be the guy revealed to stabbing Cena in the night club, which would have been far more interesting than what we got with Jesus, who all but was gone right after the angle ended.

He wouldn't work now but I think he could have done okay in the early 2000s.
