Is the entire Royal Rumble scripted or are just the winner and the big spots planned out and the rest of the Rumble improvised?
For example, here were the big spots in the 2013 Rumble: -Ziggler and Jericho being #1 and #2, and Ziggler eventually eliminating Jericho. -The Cody/Goldust apron brawl. -The Kofi "save" spot and Cody eliminating him before he got back in the ring. -Daniel Bryan eliminating Kane, and Kane saving him from elimination before dropping him. -Bo Dallas eliminating Wade Barrett and Barrett eliminating Dallas immediately afterwards. -Ryback having the most eliminations. -Cena winning, of course.

Road agents figure out the spots/big moments and work on it for a couple of weeks.

I remember a good thread about this with John Tenta on the old board that went into pretty good detail. (Since Earthquake was IN a rumble after all)
Straight answer is yes it's scripted from start to end. They've got the order all set up, who eliminates who, and all that set in stone...but the workrate that makes it happen is ad lib in most cases.

I'd imagine that the guys with important shit go through sequences with the agents and a lot of also rans get told to get lost by new guys as they come down or from referees on the apron when it's time to go. It won't be all laid out in advance or else the match would be a bunch of confused wrestlers trying to remember their spots and would just look awful.

All of the big spots are planned and I would imagine that everyone knows who is eliminating them and their cue is when a certain wrestler comes out then they have to get tossed before the next guy shows up.
I mostly wonder if they script a plan B in case the winner gets hurt or accidentally eliminated during the Rumble or Vince would just radio the ref to tell him who is going to win from there.

Sometimes Vince runs down to ringside and blows his legs up, then sits down and restarts it.

As far as can recall, the only known botch was Alex Riley a coup!e years ago. They definitely scrambled for that one.

"Where is he?" "We're getting word he's been eliminated."

Straight answer is yes it's scripted from start to end. I would guess that it's actually booked from end to start.

Pat Pat usually plans how the Royal Rumble match goes. I think last year was his first time not doing it.

What were the plans for Riley? Probably similar to what actually happened (where he distracted Cena so he got eliminated) Like Eliminate Cena after Miz distracted him. Either way Riley fell out of the ring before Miz and Cole started talking about how great he was and that he was going to win...

it's actually the only shoot in wrestling. they just get really lucky with the winners each year They're just lucky Dan Severn didn't decide to start shooting on everyone and win the Rumble that one year. Vince would've been furious, but he would've shot on Vince, then when Vince called the cops he would've shot on them too! The man could've just shot his way into immortality...but he took pity on the simple wrestler folk. I'll always respect him for that, it's got to be hard to have that kind of power and exercise restraint.
