OK, so the year is done. How did WWE do?

The good- no shortage of good to great matches this year, an influx of promising young talent, NXT
The bad- main event storylines, lack of midcard storylines, the commentary team, the rigid status quo formula and production mandates, misplaced pushes, 5 months of bad PPVs
D (needs improvement)

B+ I'd say. The highest points were pretty amazing, and the lowest points were not as low as they had been in recent years. In terms of in-ring work, they are in rare form as a roster, and with the talent that is coming up (from the lower card, and NXT) I'd say the trend will continue.

B+ (player).
I voted D, because WWE on the whole needs a major shake-up in terms of its storylines, but there have been so many great matches this year, in spite of wonky storylines and rematch after rematch after rematch, that the grade really should average out to be a C+.

They get a D- for taking all the excitement from SummerSlam and flushing it down the toilet. Whoever is booking this shit should be fired. It's reminding me of the way WCW completely blew the Sting/nWo angle at Starrcade.

D (Needs Improvement)
First 3rd or so of the year was mediocre at best, bad at its worst, but from Payback to SummerSlam, the company was on fire, and managed to maintain a small bit of the momentum through Night of Champions. However, things have been subpar at best since Battleground, and they've definitely chosen a strange note to end the year on. Overall D.

As Stephanie McMahon would say, 2013 WWE was a Solid B+ Player of a year.

Can't go lower than B. The wrestling's been too good, the tag division's booming and actually looks important, and we've seen a lot of fun new characters come into their own. Plus Total Divas is an awesome car wreck.
The reason I'm not taking off points for storyline inconsistency and illogical progression (which they've suffered from this year, granted) is because...well, if those were the two things I was primarily looking for, I would have stopped being a wrestling fan years ago.

D
Refusal to build up real stars, even those who have fan support and momentum, and relying on the established ones, which doesn't work anymore.
Programming content is still this bullshit variety crap, with the exception of NXT

It's a tough one as I think there's been a lot of great stuff, NXT taken alone would get a high mark, the quantity of great matches has arguably been at it's highest in years, The Shield have been booked to perfection, the tag division has been great and there's been a lot of memorable moments like Ziggler's title win and Mark Henry's "retirement" speech.
However I've hated The Authority angle, every PPV since S.Slam has been poorly received, many wrestlers have lost any sense of momentum and personally I found most of the big feuds underwhelming. Plus the Del Rio vs Swagger feud was bad enough to lose a grade on it's own.
I suppose that makes a C+ on balance. (Thinking about it they've been pretty close to 50% great and 50% being crap/boring but that sounds a bit hyperbolic)

First half had the Shield kicking ass and Jericho and Punk having solid matches each show. I liked Fandango's introduction. Brock was around a lot. Daniel Bryan looked great too. Second half, mostly after SummerSlam, well... at least Big Show isn't main eventing anytime soon, I hope.

C- for a recent string of PPVs so bad it's almost like they're doing it on purpose.
Only thing saving them from a D is their booking of the Shield. Though they seem to be on the job trying to screw that up now too with what they're doing with Punk. =P

The great matches scattered about through the year saved me from giving them the dreaded 'F'. So, yeah, I'll give them a 'D'.
Raw generally sucks every Monday. The Raw thread on this board is the best thing about that show. Basically, the best thing about the WWE right now is NXT.

This year we honestly got so, so many good wrestling matches. Both Cena/Punk from the 2/25 RAW and Bryan/Cesaro from the 7/22 RAW were two of my favorite RAW matches ever. SummerSlam delivered in a huge way as well.
CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, The Shield, Antonio Cesaro, The Usos, and Cody Rhodes & Goldust busted their asses week in and week out and consistently delivered great wrestling. Paul Heyman was gold. Brock Lesnar has been booked perfectly. The divas started getting actual storylines and Total Divas has been very entertaining. The tag team division was revived in a big way. Roman Reigns and Big E were elevated and both seem ready for big breakouts. The Wyatt Family gimmick is great and I don't think has come close to reaching it's full potential. Even most John Cena haters were converted this year.
My only gripes are the announcing and The Authority. Get new announcers and never put Triple H or Stephanie on my TV again and I'll be 100% happy.

Solid D.
They hit a high point with Summerslam (me: watching/buying) and then went on to completely and totally phone it in (me: not watching/not buying).
A lot of their other programming has been pretty lousy too. The only high points this year for me were;
The Shield (including their matches) Almost every free Daniel Bryan match and most of the PPV matches Undertaker/Punk at Mania Summerslam except for the last couple minutes Antonio Cesaro Cody Rhodes and Goldust The end of Raw in Seattle/Cena's promo
Everything else has come up short or been disappointing in one way or another. At least I've had strong alternatives on Mondays.

The Good: Consistently good matches; good year for tag teams (PTP, Usos, Real Americans), even better year for stables (SHIELD, Wyatt Family); Total Divas as a show The Bad: The Women's division showing promise, and then not anymore; overreliance on former and part-time stars The Ugly: The main event scene became 1998 all over again, 'cept with the Corporation constantly besting the top faces; The unnecessary need to use Total Divas as a booking device by making everyone on the show (including two of the best wrestlers in the Women's division) look like Real Housewives in wrestling gear, just to have them be the faces anyway; overall bullshit booking, spare the tag division, which wasn't bad this year, and a few select superstars/teams
My grade: Solid C-

D+. Lots of great matches but the handling of D-Bryan and the PPVs after Summerslam killed it for me.
