I'm coming here for research for my show. Seeing the recent Brimstone thread got me wondering...how many fake wrestlers are out there? I'm not necessarily talking about Brimstone, because it seems he's at least wrestled a little bit, even if he's inflated his status a bit. Take a look at this schmuck... The guy on the right is called Supertramp, he says he used to wrestle in Canada back in the 70's and 80's, but he's full of crap because there's no proof that he even wrestled a single match during the times he said so. This has even been confirmed by wrestling historians with a rich knowledge of Canadian wrestling history. But the guy has somehow fooled people into thinking he's some legend, and whenever someone calls him out on it, he usually turns tail and runs. This guy is well-known in the Pacific Northwest scene (and a little of NorCal) for all the wrong reasons. Does anyone here know of other guys who are notorious for inflating their position in the wrestling world? Someone on the level of Brimstone or Supertramp? Any suggestions would be welcome!

Bruce Pobanz.
Claims to have won the NWA World Heavyweight Title back in the 80's from Harley Race, Claims to have broken his skull "20 or 30 times" and claims to also be a professional Actor (His only acting credit is an Extra's role in a Wesley Snipes film from 2002)
He sells these lies at wrestling conventions to fans who don't know better. Definitely worth a Google search.

I never heard of Super Tramp from Canada, but his Facebook page and a feature at prowrestling digest don't show ANY vintage pics of him from the 1970s or 1980s as a wrestler. All of his pics are relatively current at small-time wrestling events. Very suspicious. You would think he could produce pictures of himself from his wrestling days. I can find no record of him ever appearing on any wrestling card. He doesn't talk about anyone he wrestled. As far as Brimstone goes, I never heard of him before a post about his wikipedia page. He's a legit wrestler as you can find matches of his on youtube. He hasn't performed in any top indy promotion and really shouldn't have a wikipedia page. I found this about 'fake wrestlers.' Remember the man who pretended that he was Stan Lane who passed away? www.cagesideseats.com/2011/3/17/2056895/the-mystery-of-the-fake-stan-lane-and-other-pretenders

ST's line is that his ex-wife destroyed all of his photos and videos of him wrestling during a very nasty divorce, which is why no photos of him wrestling seem to exist. And apparently, over the course of an 11-year career across multiple territories, he was the only person on the planet who owned any images of himself. Riiiiiggghhht.

I just found an article where he was mentioned. His name is supposedly Jeffrey Howell and neither this name his nor the name 'Super Tramp' or 'Supertramp' appear in any records of any Canadian territories. The article also alludes to him saying that he was wasn't on TV, he was just 'on the road.' Yeah, he's a fraud. doczine.com/bigdata/2/1365588237_ea5b9e3750/awm9.pdfI think he is longtime hardcore wrestling fan. I noticed he paid to be a lifetime member of the Cauliflower Alley Club and he has showed up to many of the CAC events. He's very devoted to creating the illusion that he was a wrestler in Canada. He's had so much artwork done for this never-was wrestler. The artwork is reminiscent of Mexican luchador comic book characters. Obviously he has to have some artwork since he doesn't have any real photos of himself as a wrestler.

We have a whole Facebook page dedicated to ripping this guy. Ever since we started it he has been scared to show up at local shows in the Oregon area. What's interesting is that there are frauds and schysters in the business who say they've done more than they actually have, but for the most part, at least they've wrestled in the ring. Supertramp has wrestled more ON PAPER than in real life.

Same question with the fake wrestlers: Where should the line be on "actual wrestlers, but who use gimmicks pretending to be other guys" (like: The fake Doink the Clowns, fake Golga, the guy who did the "tribute" to Mortis, etc.) They're clearly "wrestlers", but they also clearly deserve to be called out as fakes- even more than, say, most of the fake wrestlers in the Cageside Seats article, which could be boiled down to "Some guy told a woman he was Stan Lane to impress her, she believed it, they married, he never got around to telling her he lied about being Stan Lane and just runs with it" or "local area business is opening up, the guy wants to get an article about the place in the local paper or local TV news, so he makes up a bullshit story about being a wrestler to make him notable enough to get publicity for his new business".

There's been two threads dedicated to those guys in the past few week in wrest of wrestling.

I thought we were talking about fictional wrestling stars in other media, like Bonesaw McGraw.

I doubt the validity of Brother Midnight being a wrestler, as I have never found ANY matches he competed in. Promos, yes. Matches, no.

There are literally hundreds of these cases. Can't remember his name right now, but that one Dolphins kicker, the one whose record just got topped after 40 or so years, claims to have wrestled in the '70s, but none of the historians can find any record of him.
On that note, there was a chump named Kasey Dexter Godbold that used to show up at the Cauliflower Ear Club annual meetings and was quickly outed for being a sham.
