"Oh my god, the Wyatt's/Shield are going to sell for Hulk, what a travesty!". There is a reason why the WWE doesn't listen to the internet, and it's stuff like that. I will never understand why smarks care about "the future". Casual fans (i.e. the majority who buy the PPV) do not care if Hogan is 60 and the Wyatt's are young and active. They want to see the Hogan signature spots. Just like when The Rock came back. If Austin came back tomorrow, and Brock Lesnar started selling for a retired wrestler with back/neck problems, do you think fans will be in an uproar? I mean, come on. The legends get treated like legends. It's fake. Everyone knows it's fake. If the Shield or Wyatt's lose to Hogan, no one will even remember or care for the loss. They will only care for the signature spots, posing, crowd pop when Real American plays, etc.
Uh, I don't care. Like seriously. At all. What's with this idea we have to give a damn what casual's think? I watch the show most weeks, so I care about what's going to entertain me every week. I have no interest in a one off Hogan pop. Screw that. I don't need to see some old dude show up and amble around the ring. I watch the current show because I like those talents, not because I want to see guys like that.
WWE cares about casual fans. The 200k that buy their typical PPV's are their core audience. They would buy a PPV headlined by anyone. The million + that buy WM are the casuals mixed with the diehards. The WWE knows they can do just about anything and keep the diehards. They put effort into WM to attract the casuals. It's been like that for years, hence why The Rock, Taker, and other big names only work WM now (or in Rock's case RR to get the title to drop to Cena).
I consider myself a casual fan. I haven't watched the WWE since 2002, only reading this forum and watching YouTube clips if something big happens. So around WM, if I know guys like Rock, or in this year's case potentially Hogan and Warrior are going to be there, then I'll be watching. I have friends who stopped watching around the same time who only care about WM largely because of the nostalgia and getting to see big names spotlighted. That's why, even though I don't particularly care for the WWE, I feel they are doing the right thing with WM. Make it a show centered around the biggest stars, past and present. They already present their show as a variety show, so at least make it memorable.
Hence why "OMG Wyatt is selling Hogan's punches!?!" probably doesn't even factor into WWE's mind. It's meaningless. Just like no one remembers that Miz tapped out to Bret's Sharpshooter a few months before winning the world title. Things like Hogan possibly appearing at WM, Rock main eventing three years in a row, etc, will be a lot easier for you to stomach if you just accept why they do it. You don't have to like it or agree with it, but it's being done for a reason.
