Kahagas --> Rob Conway --> Satoshi Kojima
That folks is how you raise the prestige of your world heavyweight title.
Seriously, Kojima is legit and I'm glad that someone with some credentials is holding that title again.

I don't follow NWA, but at least it's not Conway.

Getting into a working deal with the incredibly hot NJPW was definitely the best thing possible for the NWA Title.

Plus, R. Bruce Tharpe got punched in his face right where his face lives by Harley Race.

Plus, R. Bruce Tharpe got punched in his face right where his face lives by Harley Race. Yeah, Tharpe is a mark who will do anything to work with some legends. Kojima is a good choice but no NWA Promoters apart from NJPW can afford to book him.

I'd like to think he is Hideo Kojima and Satoshi Tajiri's son.

Kojima is a good choice but no NWA Promoters apart from NJPW can afford to book him. Unfortuendley, this is a problem the NWA has had since the early 90's. Groups like Z1 and NJPW treat the NWA World Title very well, but it essentially gets stuck in Japan as no other rinky-dink NWA group can get the champ away from their home promotion, meaning the NWA has to eventually take it back to the states and some schlub takes it and the hideous cycle goes on and on.

So, it's back on the rise? I honestly thought that Colt and Pearce throwing the belt down would utterly be the final nail.

When I first saw the NWA affiliate in Toledo post this on Facebook, my first thought was "Yup, he's not coming here."

Yeah, Kojima is a real veteran with over 20 years of experience and has really stepped up his game since returning to NJPW in 2010. I don't think he's really on the radar of a lot of North American fans, but a title run like this could really change that. Great decision to make him champ.

Kojima is a good choice but no NWA Promoters apart from NJPW can afford to book him. This is a really good point. I wonder if Tharpe made any plans to get around this such as pooling up for some super shows or more likely having some kind of arrangement with NJPW were they foot a portion or all of the bill to have him wrestle in the states. I'm hoping they don't keep the belt exclusive to Japan as that would kind of defeat the purpose in raising the prestige of the current NWA or worse just have Kojima drop the title back in a rematch in Japan. Knowing this incarnation of the NWA I wouldn't be surprised by either. I'll remain optimistic for the time being.

Damn, I hate triple posting, but just wanted to say at this point NOTHING will be the final nail for the NWA World Championship. If the WWF, WCW and TNA pulling out of the NWA couldn't kill it, if Shane Douglas throwing it down couldn't kill it, if the freaking COLORADO KID couldn't kill it then Colt and Pearce had no chance. When nuclear war unfolds all that will be left are cockroaches and the NWA World Championship.

Kojima was supposed to wrestle in Houston for the NWA a few months ago but his injury in the Okada match nixed that. So I don't see why a trip or two to the US during his reign isn't possible.

Because the NWA promotions who used NJPW guys lost a ton of money by having the guys out there. They used 4 Japanese NJPW guys, 3 American NJPW guys (If you count Conway) and a number of local names. They drew 400 which is about what they usually draw without 4 fly ins and 3 former WWE superstars. Edit: Off topic but for any NWA fans out there, Ricky Morton won the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title in the number 1 NWA Territory in the USA {Spoiler} Spoiler

Yes, but it doesn't make business sense to do so. You figure it's a thousand dollars to get him to the States. 200 for a weekend of shows and probably a minimum of 500 for a match fee. Is Kojima going to sell a local promoter 170 tickets?

You guys are crazy. Rob Conway should have a copious Ultimo Dragon amount of belts at all times.
This Kojima had to have cheated.

Kojima as the champion is an investment. It's not necessarily about a single weekend of shows. It's about showing that the NWA and its world champion isn't a punchline like it's largely been since TNA stopped using the their belts. Whether or not that investment will pay off remains to be seen, but what you're talking about is a short-sighted way of looking at this.
