After seeing that Umaga vs. Jackass thread (Mainly learning that the guys from Jackass backed out due to Benoit reasons), I wonder what people thought of this very, very, very awkward match. Three heels facing each? Really? It's like the step cousin to the No Way Out 2001 Fatal Four Way IC match.
I mean...what the hell were WWE thinking? Sure, smarks would enjoy the match, maybe, but casual fans would gonna crap on the match. I mean...why?
Sorry if I'm annoyed, but...yeah, I never understood it.

Wasn't Umaga face going into that match, though?

I wonder if those three were the ones who were going to team up to face the cast of Jackass? Might make sense.
The NWO four-way had three heels and one face, but it still worked wonderfully. This? Not so much.

Better than the Finlay vs Regal match from GAB 2006. Least they tried to have a face in it (Umaga).

Yeah this means nothing to me. Backstory please?? Um... Carlito and Kennedy wanted the title. That's it.

I know there's the art of research, but OP could've at least mentioned the three guys in the match in his post instead of pretending like this is a match everyone should know just by saying Summerslam 2007.

The match itself wasn't bad, but this match could've easily been on RAW. If I remember correctly, Umaga would soon be owned by Jeff Hardy. Kennedy was supposedly supposed to be in a major program but he can thank the Wellness Policy for stopping that. Carlito was...Carlito. That's about it.

After the Jackass guys backed out, wasn't it supposed to be Hardy vs. Umaga, before Hardy got Wellness'd?
I have actually not seen the match in question, but I remember it was around the time they were giving Carlito his annual upper mid-card push. The next month, he'd be the only one of the three not serving a suspension and ended up jobbing to Triple H at Unforgiven.

Umaga turned face a few weeks back by helping out Cena against Orton and Carlito, so there was some interaction between Umaga and Carlito. The only involvement Kennedy had with Umaga was when he and Carlito went to a draw in a #1 contender's match so they just made it a triple threat.
Umaga turned back heel the night after SummerSlam so it didn't really matter in the long run. It was cool to see him as a face though, I always thought he would've been a great hand in that role.

Yeah I was looking forward to Umaga as face. Dude managed to make a stupid outdated gimmick work, so I was confident he could actually work as a babyface

He was in the middle of a feud with Vince for no reason that wound up going absolutely nowhere, and Carlito couldn't be DQed or counted out while Triple H could be. It made absolutely no sense, given the Umaga feud the month later and him already being an established go-to guy for Vince, to not have Umaga do a run-in to screw Triple H over and give Carlito at least a slight rub.

Umaga was getting some good reactions as a baby face if I remember correctly. So I was surprised when they turned him heel again so soon but I guess the only reason he turned face was because the crowd hated IC Champ baby face Santino.

I think the HHH/Vince feud was supposed to lead to Kennedy w/ Vince vs Triple H at WM24. As for Umaga interfering, he was suspended so he couldn't do it at Unforgiven.

The problem is you had Kennedy and Carlito in the same ring together. Carlito was in full "I don't care" mode at the time, and Kennedy wasn't exactly capable of carrying a guy back then. Add in the fact that everybody was a heel and it was very difficult to get invested into the match.
It was essentially a recipe for mediocrity at best.
