From WWE's official youtube.
Since there seems to be a lot of talk about Bryan and the Wyatts, I thought i'd post what a lot of people are bringing up. Stone Cold Steve Austin had been WWF Champion only a few weeks, was arrested by Vince McMahon on RAW the week prior, and agreed to Vince's corporate makeover leaving people wondering if he had sold out to become the Corporate Champion.
I'm sure nearly everyone who was watching at the time didn't buy it, but Austin sure did look badass in that suit.

Great segment. Although he didn't need to strip all the way down to his trunks to prove his point...
What I loved about Vince McMahon around this time was that he wasn't a full blown villain yet. He was more of a passive-aggressive dick who wasn't necessarily evil deep down. He was much more easy to relate to in terms of directing hatred towards because he resembled a real boss/co-worker/etc.. as opposed to the cartoon character he became shortly afterwards. It's the same reason Eve was so hated for a few weeks back in 2012; she was a real girl who would jerk you around and people could relate. She lost a massive amount of heat when they decided to turn her into another unrealistic jezebel.
One final note: Wow, that world belt was so pretty at the time.

I was actually a fan of Vince at this time. I could see his point of view. It was his company, he should be stopping people from causing trouble. Then again I liked Austin too and didn't like Vince putting all the obstacles in Austin's way just because he wasn't the champion Vince wanted.

Ha, I was there that night in Syracuse, and a lot of people around me DID buy it as a heel turn. Of course, the sound was horrible in that building and nobody could hear anything anybody was saying, so all they could really perceive was Steve Austin wearing a suit for some reason.

That's funny, so was I. You're right though about the War Memorial arena, I didn't really understand what happened until I watched it when it aired the next week. I got that it was a bait-and-switch by the end but from my seats in the nosebleeds we thought it was maybe an impostor Austin.

Totally agree. I loved this period for McMahon. You knew he was powerful, and you knew he was slimy after Montreal, but they didn't just pull the trigger right away and make him the mega-heel. They let it build. They teased that it was going to hit the fan between him and Austin, and what would McMahon do? This was one of my favorite segments ever because it felt so tense and real: www.wwe.com/videos/stone-cold-steve-austin-calls-out-mr-mcmahon-raw-march-9-1998-26023714

It seems a lot of people are forgetting that they pretty much did the exact same thing with Bryan already;

That War Memorial needs to be torn down, it's such an awful building for anything, much less a Raw.

Syracuse had some fairly big shows during the Monday Night Wars - there was also the big Hart/Sid cage match pre-Mania 13, after which Bret Hart shoved Vince down (which was a big deal back then) and said he was getting screwed by everybody, which was "bullshit." I missed that show, but I was there in Spring 2000 when David Arquette when the WCW World Title in Syracuse!

If the arena in Syracuse has giant posters of memorable moments hanging around the lobby area where fans get food and souvenirs, I really hope they have a picture of Arquette holding the title.
