At the risk of opening the can of worms that is the iPhone vs. Droid debate, I need some advice from you fine folk.
I've had an update available for quite some time, but I've never pulled the trigger on using it. Well, I think I'm ready, but I don't know whether to stick with Apple (I currently have the 4S) or move over to a Droid device. After reading around/watching reviews online, the Galaxy S4 seems to be the better choice, but I'm a little nervous about making the switch.
So which is the better phone, FAN?

They're both great phones.
I prefer the iPhone because it's smaller and fits in my pocket more easily (and I find the user interface more comfortable) but if you prefer a larger display (and phone to match) then the Galaxy would probably be the better option.

Nokia Lumia 1020...41 megapixels yo. Sadly, that's not an option. Both the iPhone 5 and the S4 are the best ones I can get in my price range.

I'm a big fan of my Windows Phone. It has occaisional quirks and the app store sometimes lacks popular apps, but it runs smooth as silk even though it is the cheapest one available (Nokia Luma 521 - got it for 120 before it dropped into the 100 dollar range)
Not that familiar with the equivalent phone in that price range though, so I can't make any recommendations.

Four(ish) questions:
1. What is your ratio of paid apps to free ones? 2. Are you, or do have any interest in becoming, a root/jailbreak type of person? 3 (if yes). Are we talking just rooting/jailbreaking, or full-on "loading ROMs from XDA"/"I love Cydia and Cydia loves me" here? 3. (If no). What are your thoughts on gimmicky crazy crap like Siri or any Samsung app that begins with "s-"? 4. Do you use Mac or Windows?
Full disclosure: I own both an S4 and an iPad, so I'm intimately familiar with both ecosystems.

The S4 is a fantastic device. I have a note 2 and Samsung phones are quality units, I couldn't recommend Samsung enough.

I've got both, I use my Galaxy more. Though that is probably more due to the Iphone being my work phone than any superiority with the phone

Full disclosure: I own both an S4 and an iPad, so I'm intimately familiar with both ecosystems. 1. I think I have 3-4 paid apps. The rest were free. 2. I do have interest. I've never tried to do it on my current or previous iPhone due to fears that I would screw something up and brick my phone. 3. The 'full-on' variety. 4. I admittedly know nothing about any of the Samsung apps, but I loathe Siri. I don't think it's ever been useful for me. Also, thanks to my southern accent, it understands what I say around 40% of the time. 5. I currently use Windows. However, I have used Macs before and I've always enjoyed them.

I've tried making the jump from iOS to the Galaxy line of phones (s3 in my case) twice and hated it. Never could feel comfortable with it, always having to tweak something which caused something else to need tweaking and so on. Plus I don't like the Play Store or its selection of apps.

I'd go with the G4 then. Samsung overloads it with a ton needless crap and filler (eye tracker, their own app store, TouchWiz, etc), but it all can be removed provided you know what you're doing.
