I know it's a running joke he won't turn heel. He will.
Every year the cheers/boos turn a little bit more to the boo side.
Every year he continues to run the same schtick. Crowd is semi into it but I can note the interest loss one storyline to the next.
Bryan obviously gets cheered more than him. So does CM Punk.
How long do you feel WWE will try to drag it out? How long until cena's merch sales take a hit forcing their hand (it's going to happen)

He needs to turn. It's better to burn out than to fade away. Neil Young should book wrestling shows.

BTW this isn't a question of if he'll turn heel or not. I'm just asking what year you think it'll happen.
Saying he won't is kinda foolish imo if you are a long time wrestling viewer.
I considered deleting this post, but left it. I stand by it.

He'll stay face his entire career and then unleash the mother of all heel promos at his hall of fame induction speech.

The kids who did love him are starting to grow up, and either stop watching, or start cheering for someone else.
Look at Summerslam. 90% of the crowed was with DB. Even when he was feuding with Punk, (outside of Chicago) usually around half the crowed would cheer him.
The crowds are so smarky is this day and age, that it's harder for him.

If it does happen, I'm sure the E is gonna hype the hell out of it. It's gonna be mentioned in every part of the wwe. They're gonna tell us it's a million times more heelish than when Hogan turned.

Another good question might be, once Cena turns heel, after the shock value is gone...will it be any good? I'm iffy on that. Might be a big reason WWE is hesitant.

I doubt if he'll turn anytime soon. Meltzer just said on his radio show Monday night, that the recent house shows with Cena headlining have far out-drawn the "B-tour" with Daniel Bryan and Punk as headliners.
For whatever reason, for casual fans (who are WWE's bread and butter) -- Cena is the guy they want to see.
Even though most of us in the IWC like Punk and Daniel Bryan much more, and they get far more impressive reactions on TV.

2015, at Wrestlemania, when he cheats to end the Undertaker's streak.

Like people that go to house shows are different than those that show up at RAW. Which is completely possible.

I honestly believe at this point that it's not gonna happen. He'll retire a face. They've done a good job of basically making him the "heel" when the storyline called for it and they knew he would get booed.

He'll turn when his merch drops below number one, or when his k-mart brand doesn't sell well. The man gets booed in MSG, the building that Vince listens to above all others, and no change happens. So we could see crowds react like the Hammerstein Ballroom and it wouldn't change anything.

All I know is whenever he does turn heel, he should use this for his theme.

They've done a good job of basically making him the "heel" when the storyline called for it and they knew he would get booed. IMO that would be a foolish move on WWE's part. They could probably invigorate their Cena merch sales after he turns heel. I think WWE makes more money out of Cena, and keeps more interest in Cena, by turning him when they run the well dry.

If Hogan can turn heel, ANYONE can turn heel. Most of Cena's hardcore fans are kids, they get older and start liking someone else. Its happened before and it will happen to Cena.
His popularity will have to wane considerably for it to happen. What I see happening with Cena is someone else becoming more popular than him, eating into his bread and butter fans. When that happens, it makes more sense to turn Cena. It's really a matter of time.
I don't think it happens anytime soon, but 1-3 years, yeah. He's going to have a heel run at some point. He's also smart enough to know that MANY want to see him do it.
